Even though McCarthy picked off some rebel Republicans in his twelfth bid for the Speakership, it was still not enough to overcome defections from Gaetz, as well as Reps. Lauren Boebert (R-CO), Andy Biggs (R-AZ), and others.

CBS News’ Robert Costa reports that some House Republicans walked off the House floor in disgust as Gaetz got up to nominate Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH) for House Speaker, even though Jordan himself is voting for McCarthy as House Speaker.

“I’m in speaker’s lobby and some members are cursing out Gaetz as they leave the floor,” Costa reports on Twitter.
“‘I’m not listening to this [expletive]!’ one House R says… others fuming and going outside to the balcony to cool off."

McCarthy will now need to seek a 13th ballot to become Speaker, and it still isn’t clear if he can make any concessions that will be able to win over his critics in the caucus.

Gaetz in particular has said he’d be willing to see Rep. Hakeem Jefferies (D-NY) become House Speaker if it means denying McCarthy the job.

:D:D:D:D

Kama imekata, imekata. McCarthy should just concede and let someone else try. :D:D:D

Democratic Representative Ilhan Omar’s unimpressed expression while chatting with Republican Matt Gaetz
in Congress on Thursday has been immortalized in a photo that has since gone viral on social media…

In the picture, the Minnesota representative looks rather uninspired as Gaetz leans over her chair and speaks to her animatedly.

While the topic of the conversation between the two representatives is unknown, POLITICO reporter Nicholas Wu tweeted that
“Rep. Matt Gaetz had been making the rounds on the Democrat’s side today talking to members.” :D:D

The two representatives were back in Congress on Thursday as the House attempted for the third day in a row to elect a new speaker as hopeful Kevin McCarthy failed again to secure enough votes.

Wu wrote on Twitter that a source familiar with the matter told him that the Florida congressman “told Rep. Omar the anti-Kevin group got all they wanted but still weren’t voting for him yet.”

“Her body language: leaning away from him, wants nothing to do with him. Her face shows disgust mixed with puzzlement, mouth corners turned waaaay down. His presence is beyond unwelcome,” commented one Twitter user.

“A picture is worth 1000 words. She looks like she just smelled bad fart,” another person tweeted. :D:D:D

Kevin McCarthy is still not speaker of the House, but he is getting closer — and, after some furious dealmaking, he says he’ll have the votes he needs to win the gavel later tonight.

“I’ll have the votes,” he told CNN this afternoon, shortly before the House voted to adjourn until 10 p.m. ET.
The California Republican on Friday broke through the resistance of most of the 20 Republican rebels who had blocked his bid to become speaker of the House over the first 11 rounds of balloting spanning three days this week.
On the 12th round of balloting, McCarthy flipped 13 of his opponents and one member who had been voting “present.” He was able to finally top the vote tally, garnering 213 votes to 211 for Rep. Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY). Yet he was still short of the majority needed to secure the speaker’s gavel. On the 13th round, he picked up one more vote, but six Republicans continued to vote for other candidates.
The adjournment until nighttime allows time for negotiations to continue and for two Republicans who support McCarthy but had to be away from the Capitol earlier on Friday, Reps. Wesley Hunt (R-TX) and Ken Buck (R-CO), to return.
McCarthy reportedly promises big defense spending cuts: McCarthy has reportedly agreed to give his right-wing holdouts more power and more leverage over the legislative process, including some concessions on the budget and debt limit that could lead to risk-laden showdowns later this year.

The insurrectionist and election denier from Ohio, Republican Rep. Jim Jordan failed again on Wednesday, October 18, 2023. on a crucial second ballot to become House speaker.

The hard-fighting ally of Donald Trump lost even more GOP colleagues who are refusing to give him the gavel. Jordan had relied on backing from Trump, the party’s frontrunner in the 2024 election to challenge President Joe Biden, and groups pressuring rank-and-file lawmakers for the vote, but it was not enough.

What was clear was that Jordan’s path to becoming House speaker was almost certainly lost. He was opposed by 22 Republicans, two more than he lost in first-round voting the day before. No further votes on Wednesday were scheduled.

The House came to another abrupt standstill, stuck now 15 days without a speaker — a position of power second in line to the presidency — since the sudden ouster of Kevin McCarthy. Once a formality in Congress, the vote for House speaker has devolved into another bitter GOP showdown for the gavel.

As Republicans upset and exhausted by the infighting retreated for private conversations, hundreds of demonstrators amassed outside the Capitol over the Israel-Hamas war, a stark reminder of the concern over having the House adrift as political challenges intensify at home and abroad.

Ahead of Wednesday’s vote, Jordan, the combative Judiciary Committee chairman, made an unusual plea for party unity — almost daring his colleagues to put forward the alternative proposal for a temporary speaker.

“Dear Jim Jordan,

I woke up at 5AM today, drove an hour to Columbus Airport, got on an hour-long flight to Washington D.C, took a car all the way to the U.S Capitol, waited in line for over an hour…

…JUST so I could see your face the moment you LOST today.

Oh, There’s more:

I’m here for the OSU kids you didn’t protect.

I’m here for the voters you failed to represent.

I’m here for every American who sees you as the traitor you are.

You violated our Constitution and you violated our trust.

You deserve to lose Jim Jordan.

Get used to it.

Because I am going to beat you in November too.”

Hehehehe …
I predict that Jordan will also fail the Third Ballot
and try to settle for the current temporary GOP Speaker ( who does not want the job ) …

Macarthy does not want the job …

Trump would love the job but even less members of the GOP will vote for him …
The Trump MAGA morons wing controls only 43% of the GOP …

Minority Democrats Leader Hon: Hakim Jefferies would only need 15 GOP crossover votes to get past the 218 Seat threshold …

President Joseph Biden must be laughing very hard in the White House …

Interesting times ahead …

CNN —

Republican Rep. Jim Jordan failed Friday for the third time to win the speaker’s gavel, faring worse in the latest round of voting than he had in two previous failed votes.

The loss comes as the Ohio Republican and Judiciary Committee chairman faces growing pressure from within his own party to drop out of the race and the House remains in a state of paralysis.

In Friday’s vote, 25 House Republicans voted against Jordan – a higher number than in the two prior votes and far more than the handful of defectors Jordan can afford to lose and still win the gavel given the GOP’s narrow majority.

Who was it among House Freedom Caucus members (and the initial chairman) who led the charge in chasing Boehner away and criticizing Ryan? The man who now wants the speaker’s gavel — Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH). He has failed two votes already and likely will fail a third time.

Why? Because there are a handful of House members who will not support him and with such a slim majority, that’s all it takes. Jordan’s style rubbed off on supporters as House representatives who voted against him have received harassing messages, phone calls, and even death threats. It got so bad, it forced Jordan to send out a post on X (formerly Twitter) condemning threats against members. It boggles the mind the political climate is so bad that the guy who wants the top job in Congress, and who would be second in line to the presidency, must say, “Hey y’all. Stop sending death threats to my fellow Republicans.”

What makes matters worse is that Jordan-aligned groups such as Turning Point USA are imploring people to “light up” the phone lines of members who voted against Jordan, referring to them without a hint of irony as the “chaos caucus.”

Jordan may ultimately prevail, as no one else seems to want the job. Still, if he wins, what kind of governing coalition will he have? He won’t have the trust of some members and will face pressure to pass legislation by fellow radicals that won’t get any traction in the Senate and likely put swing district seats in danger.

This is the golden opportunity for Hon Hakim Jefferies and his 209 Democrats to make a difference, be the adults in the room and settle the November 2024 contest.

  • the GOP is seriously divided , infighting and cannot even nominate a House Leader.
  • Trump is facing 91 civil and criminal charges (… more to follow soon … ).
His children and In-laws are also implicated in various similar scandals.
His close associates are pleading guilty to similar charges and willing to testify AGAINST him …
There are ongoing legal challenges to REMOVE Trump from State Ballots and PREVENT him from running in 2024 …
  • All MAGA inspired attempts to Impeach President Joseph Biden and Hunter Biden have been Dead on Arrival so far …
No credible evidence has been presented.
No charges have been brought in spite of having the famous “Hunter Biden Laptop” for years.
  • The Russian/China / Iran axis is a real and present danger to the whole world and requires a skilled and steady hand at the helm.
Ukraine , Israel , Taiwan and various African and South American hotspots require an urgent re-sent of US Foreign Policy and presence to avoid potential calamities …
Isolationism is no longer an OPTION for the USA …

My advise to the Democratic Party

  • Form a united front around President Biden and Leader Hon. Hakim Jefferies , focus on issues and delivery to the US voter.
  • Actively advocate that the Democratic Party is the better option and work closely with moderate Republicans to pass vital bi-partisan legislation.
  • Strengthen presence and voter appeal in swing States and stand up to GOP Jerrymandering and tampering of Voting Rights , Voter registration and take-overs of State Legislatures where GOP super majorities are reversing democracy.
  • Utilize the positive influence of moderate Republicans , former leadership ( Bush , Clinton’s , Obama’s) to campaign and sell a better, alternative dream to the current MAGA nonsense of hate , division , racism and isolationism …
  • Actively fact check all negative media narratives being peddled by Trump acolytes ( DeSantis , Ramaswamy , Pence and company).

Anyone who will publicly state that Trump is the greatest president of the 21st century is not fit for that High Office

Neither is Donald Trump …
