Two police officers have been arrested over an attempted robbery with violence incident in Kioko, Dagoretti.
According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations, the officers identified as Inspector Evans Soita and Constable John Kemboi walked into Stephen Kamotho’s shop in Dagoretti at 11am on Wednesday and a confrontation began.
The officers stationed at Spring Valley Police station then displayed their guns and tried to handcuff Kamotho who raised alarm as members of the public gathered to rescue him from the officers.
“Cornered, the officers opted to escape by firing one round in the air to scare away the irate mob,” DCI said.
During the melee, Kamotho sustained injures on his left hand and stomach and was rushed to Nile hospital for medical attention.
As they escaped from the mob, one of the officers - Inspector Soita lost his police communication pocket phone, which was recovered by police on patrol who had rushed to the scene.
“Police officers on patrol based at Kikuyu, rushed to the scene of the incident and managed to dissuade the mob and recover the crucial police communication gadget.”
Preliminary investigations revealed that the communication phone had been assigned to Soita, who is the in-charge of the Lower Kabete Patrol base.
