. The community is centered in Dallas and its northern suburbs, and its rapid growth has significantly shaped the region’s cultural, economic, and political landscape.
Demographics and growth
- Rapid population increase: Texas has the second-largest Indian American population in the country. The Indian population in DFW more than doubled between 2000 and 2010, and continued to see significant growth in the decade that followed.
- Concentrated in suburbs: While a notable population lives in the city of Dallas, many Indian Americans reside in northern suburbs, including Collin County (Plano, Frisco, Allen, McKinney) and Denton County. Some subdivisions in Frisco even have an Indian majority.
- Diverse professions: Early Indian immigrants were professionals in the medical and engineering fields. The community has since expanded to include information technology specialists, students, and educators.
