Wadau, I have a problem.
I bought some disused Vista station wagon and been righting some wrongs done by previous owner.
I replaced the original 1ZZ-FE engine with same type. Very powerful, but gear does not shift beyond 3.
Initially, it was fitted with Toyota Corolla ECU, which didn’t show engine vitals eg temperature and fuel. The new ECU does, but for the problem above.
Could it have also been fitted with the wrong gearbox?
The 1zz fe has three versions. A 120hp from about 1999, a 136hp from 2004 and earlier, and a 148hp from 2005 and later. They all look the same but the rotating assembly and computers are slightly different. Transmissions are also slightly different but used transmission for the engine are cheap. An engine is bought with its computer otherwise you are going to get problems. Go to jp-carparts website and source correct part number for your computer. It’s easy. I also hope it is not overdrive button or improper installation like wiring. The fourth gear is over drive O/D and might just be switched off heheh
Manual cars always win
Winning is not always the right bet
Unaishi miaka gani wewe? Watu wanaelekea fully electric na wewe unaimba tu manual kama caveman. Hata lori zikitoka huko
Real men and women drive manual. Automatic ni ya watoto wa juzi broilers kama wewe. Those Auto cars are more problematic than the manual ones.
Thank you for this gem. Overdrive wiring is non-existent, which means I’ll have to have it running before I make the next move. Thanks a bunch.
Change gearbox baba
Auto ni gari za watu lazy. Though I have driven autos but I would take the manual over auto anytime. Fully electric in Kenya is a scam.
I drive an auto and I’m ancient
Preference, there was a time we had 4 manual vehicle at the carpool and we had two drivers one was sick the other was on his annual leave 2 counties away, if I wasn’t adept at handling manual vehicle, kazi ingesimama.
Alaa! Though it comes dirt cheap, I thought I probably follow up on @Rene Descartes advice before I jump to this step. Ama?
I had such problem 3yrs ago. Some gear box pressure plates ndio zilikuwa zimeisha and it is not advisable.to repair them.At 27k I got replacement.
Problem got solved.I need to mention I spent over 15k with the guy who used to be my mechanic on his guess work.
Thanks to seeking for second opinion coz he had begun talks of opening up engine
I get it now. As for repairing it, I burnt my fingers two years ago as well. Some mechanic also did guesswork on my 5A manual gearbox. It was premium machos! Had to fork out 35k (and those freaking gearboxes are damn expensive!) besides the almost 15k already spent.
I just want my mech to rule out overdrive issue, which will clear the path for a replacement.
So OVERDRIVE was OFF all this time!
O/D OFF light was blown. The gearbox and ECU were all working great. I now do
85km/h at between 1950-2250rpm! This pushes fuel consumption to an average of 18km/l from an average of 10km/l. Wholesome.
Thanks for this advises Wadau.
One more thing: the chime sounds as soon as I reach 23km/h. What do I need to do?
Its always some small issue like that when it is not getting into fourth.
If it were not getting into the third then it would have been a bigger problem.
what chime? seat belt?
Absolutely true.
I thought it was the seat belt. There is probably an open circuit somewhere. I’ll start from there.
