I believe in filial piety, which means we should respect, provide and give good advice to elders (parents, grandparents etc). But we should get over this silly African notion that parents are angels and they deserve unconditional respect. I’ve seen a lot old mamas who manipulate and zungusha their kids hadi watoto waingia karura and they only show up at the funeral. These toxic and selfish women don’t suddenly becomes saints once they’ve become mothers and aged. You marry one of them, you’re fucked for life.
