A Dubai resident, Reshabh Nagpal, recently went viral after documenting an incredible instance of municipal efficiency where a pothole-ridden road was repaired just hours after a friend filed a complaint. The action began almost immediately, with workers arriving with heavy machinery by 12:30 PM to clear, level, and resurface the damaged stretch.
By 4:30 PM the same day, the road was not only fully operational but had already been repainted, highlighting the Dubai Roads and Transport Authority’s (RTA) commitment to rapid infrastructure maintenance. This level of speed is part of a broader strategy where the RTA utilizes a 2024-2027 plan to improve traffic flow and infrastructure across 23 major streets and intersections.
The RTA actively encourages citizens to report issues through its “Mahboub” WhatsApp service (+971 58 800 9090), which uses AI and direct location sharing to streamline repair requests. This digital-first approach helped RTA achieve a 16% growth in digital revenues in 2024, processing over 13 million transactions through smart apps.
While the viral video showcased a same-day fix, other residents have reported that the RTA typically resolves similar infrastructure complaints within a range of two to eleven days depending on the severity. The efficiency is fueled by significant investment, with a recent Dhs16 billion plan announced to further develop main roads and dedicated bus lanes through 2027.
This incident has sparked a global conversation about public service standards, with the viral clip amassing tens of thousands of views and drawing comparisons to much slower repair times in other major cities. The RTA continues to aim for global leadership in “seamless and sustainable mobility” by adopting the latest international maintenance practices.
