Tonsil removal

My 3 year old has been having recuurent tonsils infections.

A conultant E.N.T speacialist at Mp Shah hospital told me its going to cost me around 130 k if done at that hospital.

Anyone with experience or info on this so that I can explore other options ??

Dr. Luther, are you in the house ?

Mimi nilikatwa kirimi instead

Tafuta wale daktari wa kienyeji wenye hutoa kilimi n meno ya plastic, maybe just maybe wanaeza kusaidia.

Some places it costs >800k.
What you have is a good price for such a facility.
Are you checking in as a private patient or general patient?

Dr @Luther12 njoo haraka, 130k for tonsils, thats too much

General patient.

Worth it. That’s the best you can get from such a facility. Pole kwa mtoto. Hujagongwa lakini.

Me i had mine removed plus sinuses sorted out for 250k @ Karen hospital. I guess it’s a good deal.

Thanks for the info.

I will do the best for her.

Mkitolewa sinuses hua mnabaki na nini? Kuuliza tu.

Always seek a second and even third opinion from a different medic if in doubt. Each case is evaluated on its own merits.

usiende kwanza, ebu eresea sisi haya maneno. What conditions warrants for subtraction (removal) of:

  1. Tonsils
  2. Sinuses
  3. Kirimi

fafanueni priss.

Tonsils (adenoids, lingual/tongue, palatine/palate) are lymph glands at the back of the throat that when enlarged (from infection or other causes) hide bacteria and lead to recurrent upper or lower respiratory tract infections. When identified as the problem by an ENT, they are removed by resection, therefore eliminating the space where bacteria hide.

Sinuses are air spaces in the skull that make your head less heavy, resonate sound etc. They produce some mucous that makes breathing easier. In some cases, fluid builds up in the sinuses, which might be infected, leading to recurrent respiratory tract infections, headaches etc. An ENT will (endoscopically) access the sinus and drain it by cutting pieces of the airway and sucking off the fluids.

Kirimi (palatine uvulae) is a raised section of the palate at the back of the mouth used specifically for voice variations e.g. you can’t speak French without it  It also causes snoring in some people and is known to prevent large balls of food passing into the oesophagus both when awake or asleep. If enlarged (smoking, infection etc) it causes a chocking effect. Removal is not recommended as it has no known benefits.

None of the 3 above warrant removal, unless there is evidence (clinical and radiological) that they are a problem.

thanks for the detailed info:).
…so what are the consequences of tonsils and sinuses removal.

Consequences? What exactly do you mean?

Negative:

  1. Complications: Short term - bleeding, nerve damage etc
  2. Complications: Long term - recurrence, chronic infections, etc
    3: Financial (can be expensive)

Positive: Reduction in infections, improved drainage/air flow, decreased snoring etc
