Toll stations to be re-introduced

The government intends to introduce toll stations on major roads in the country.

The roads are:

  1. Nairobi- Mombasa Highway
  2. Nairobi- Nakuru-Mau Summit Highway
  3. Nairobi- Thika Road
  4. Nairobi- Southern Bypass

Speaking at Nairobi’s Nofork Hotel, KeNHA director general Peter Mundinia said some of the roads will be managed by private developers.

Kulikua na ingine huko kiboswa back in the 90s

have not being an advocate of toll stations on roads, have always thought charging through other means such as road levy on fuel and related products.

Road levy punishes everyone. Mimi nikienda kununua diesel for my generator in @Shagsmodo I will be charged road levy.

lakini a good % of the amounts raised at the toll stations itapotea hapa kule. Then they should tell users of the said roads kama watakuwa wakinunua fuel that doesn’t have road levy

There is a toll station I saw in Dubai bridges. It was electronic and very effective. Unaweka prepaid sticker kwa wind screen and every time you pass the bridge, pesa inakatwa. It also has the maximum amount you can be charged per day. Imagin hapa Kenya matatu zitakuwa charged for every trip they make.

These roads were built using public funds / syndicated loans!! How can they now give them over to “a private developer” who never developed them to charge us toll for their use?? Surely we are being robbed!

Kaburi yako tu(nyumbani) ndio hautanyang’anywa…hmmm na kama ni public utanyang’anywa.

This is just increasing the burden on Kenya who are already overtaxed.:mad::mad:

being fossil fuel which are environmentally dangerous like tobacco and alcohol, they should be charged even higher as to encourage safer alternatives.

very true alternatives like cheki maneno are the best solution

Not in Kenya

We’ve been paying unofficial tolls via NTSA and traffic cops stationed every kilometer or so on highways, the gava should just formalise these collection points.

This means that fares will have to rise or the matatu business will no longer make sense. Also, I will not vote for Jubilee if they plan on charging me directly when I use a road. This is robbery taken two notches higher.

This could be a big tank who want to benefit from the project, just like in eCitizen where you pay kes 650 to renew a DL,then get a receipt of 600bob,50 shilling seems retained by the platform developer and mark you big money was spent at the onset of the project. If govt really want this money it has lot of avenues of collecting it
