Jana afternoon I had errands to run across the channel. The ferries were a bit slow but I managed to cross over, and see a client near Shika adabu. I offloaded the Pradox , got my pd check and left.
There was some serious jam on the LIKONI side but i managed to crawl my way to the waterside. As I sat there waiting to board the ferry, as happens alot, an elderly man knocked on my Windows and asked for a lift across the channel. This happens alot coz the climb on either side is tough especially to advanced age.
I quickly obliged the Kanzu clad Gentleman and he hobbled in.
We instantly started badmouthing Kenya ferry for the delays. The man, a Digo by his Swahili, who had a bag full of snacks that he was enroute to donate at a mosque for the need to use for Ftari, was very resourceful and well informed. In less time than it took us to board MV LIKONI, he had brought me up to speed with almost all happening at the Ferry, including the anticipated arrival of a much larger ferry from Instabul Turkey latter this month to be commissioned by “Uuru” I was very impressed.
Then we got around to politics like all good people do. Knowing coast, I decided to tread slowly if for nothing but not tread on the Gentleman’s toes with my RWNEEEBP. Then the Gentleman Saidi the following words. “Mtu wa kupinga, lazima apinge. Ni kama Hasidi, Hana sababu. Hawa vijana wamefanya makubwa kwa mda mchache sana. Kwa miaka miwili wamesumbuna Na kesi hegii. Ni miaka miwili tu ndio wamekuwa kazini. Lakini huyu Jamaa Na mwenzake huyu wa hapa hawaoni hata. Wao ni ushindani. Huyu wetu hapa ni fujo tu. Huwezi shindana Na rais. Niko radhi nijifanye mjinga watu wangu wapate Chao. Kupinga tuuu…kupinga. Hawa vijana wakipata miaka mingine Tano, hata hapa pwani hapatajulikana”
I dropped him at A1, and meditated on his words for a long while as I drove home.
Coast is changing. People want results, not ushindani.
I don’t purport to speak on behalf of others but in Kwale, Jubilee might harvest 20% of the votes…Mombasa na Kilifi they better forget…its locked!
