Thwake Dam Waters Deemed Unfit For Human Consumption

After spending billions of shillings on this project now it’s water is not safe.

42 billion shillings have so far been pumped 8 to the 82 billion project

We’re fvcked

Thwake ndio nini chief bonobo?

Nina maboys ka wa nne waliangukia janta hapo kea hio site…overworked underpaid…na madharau ya mchinku nayo???..wasee wametry ku strike improved terms of employment and working conditions…wapi…unapigwa kalamu pap…hio project ilikuwa tu na kisirani…but ma young turks wale walipata chance kudunga job hapo…wote wamekubali wame do ka something wamegain valuable experience knowledge and skills…for that they are eternally thankfull…nakupita na tu villager…tei ngata na ndai zilikuwanga readily available…watu wakipata off…hawaendi home…wanacolonise neighbouring towns.

Wote?

Lets just say yes…their experience was pretty much similar.

meant WOTE trading centre

I have my doubts… I have not read the full report but that story is in bad faith meant to create uproar… Kama maji ni chafu you just do water treatment… I suspect kuna journalist aliitisha pesa a kill story akaambiwa nitakufinya!!

Can it be used for crop irrigation ?.

sure

Apparently not. They’re damming the Athi, whose main tributary is Nairobi River, whose waters are unfit for crop production AND human consumption.

You do realize that you would basically have to build a full desalination plant to make the water at Thwake drinkable.
Remember, all that sewage you are seeing draining into the rivers of Nairobi, all that industrial waste from Kariobangi Light Industry, all those ‘accidental’ discharges into the Nairobi River at night by industries in Industrial Area, are ending up accumulating behind that dam and with evaporation, the toxins become even more highly concentrated.
That 82 billion would have been better spent banning septic tanks in Nairobi, passing a law that stipulates that anyone subdividing land must provide basic infrastructure like cabro roads and the county government provides sewer lines or the land owners build a sewer line(and not pay sewer fees to the county government) and make sure 100% of all households are connected to the Nairobi sewer network.
All areas of Nairobi should also be fully covered in either concrete or greenery, to minimise contamination of storm water that drains from the city into our rivers.
All houses on riparian land should be demolished.

Are you willing to eat maize and green crops which are accumulating ARVs, Lead, Mercury, Antibiotics and microplastics in them???

Putting the cart before the horse.
Common sense dictates that you dam clean safe for consumption water. So inorder for them to commence damming they should have started with reclamation and preservation of all the rivers that would drain into the said dam.
This should be a long term national project sio short term self interest projects…hata kama ni kujipenda.

I wonder when will sewer lines reach all the Nairobi metro areas like Kitengela, Ngong, Juja etc. that are now heavily populated.

Even in Nairobi itself, imagine how much human sht ends up in the rivers because there are no sewer lines in the slums yet millions are shtt*ng day & night…

Their experience doesn’t matter at all, the next project will still be under the Chinese.

Shida ya io maji ni heavy metals, boys wangu ako kwa county and he told me sewage is not the problem, problem ni izo heavy metals za industries

If that’s the case then it’s extreme
