He is too clever to measure the depth of his wisdom before he speaks. At least Mulu Mutisya lacked the benefit of formal education. This lawyer is something else.

Hawa wanatubeba ufala sana. Kukiwa na ordinary case of kidnapping D- wa DCI hua in 2 or 3 days wameshika watu. Sasa hawa wako abducted wanashindwa kupata?

Hawajashindwa; they just look the other way. Solve a problem like you mean it. There is a simple, legal way of dealing with this nonsense: summon the IG to court and demand answers. It’s his job to give chase and arrest those vehicles. If he cannot tell the status of investigations into those cases, or if he refuses to come, jail him. Next, work on the DCI and continue downwards. Huu ni upuzi.
The abductees will appear, and they’ll talk.

We can only hope things will be better,

Five days after President William Ruto promised Kenyans that he would ensure cases of abductions in the country would end, the six youths who were abducted over the Christmas period are still missing.

Speaking in Homa Bay on Friday, December 27, last year, Ruto promised an end to the abductions but also told parents to “take responsibility” for their children.

“We are going to stop the abductions so that our youth can live peacefully,” he asserted.

Following the promise, several Kenyans have called out Ruto for failing to heed this promise. Journalist Larry Madowo has called out Ruto for failing to deliver on the promise and questioned why the probe was taking longer, putting the families on hold.

Taking to his official X page on Wednesday, Larry Madowo noted that while the world is celebrating a new year, families of the six abducted youths cannot celebrate peacefully because they don’t know the whereabouts of their children.

“It’s been 5 days since President Ruto promised to end abductions in Kenya. Families of the dozens still missing are waiting for him to keep his word,” Madowo pointed out.

On his part, Kangundo MP Fabian Kyule called on the Director of Criminal Investigations to expedite the investigation of the whereabouts of the youths who have been missing for over a fortnight now.

“On this matter, we stand and condemn it, and we are calling on the DCI to move faster, we need to get the proper information, and we need to understand whether people are doing this to defame the work of government, before the January 15, we need to understand what is happening,” the MP said.

Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua and his allies also piled pressure on the President, asking him to oversee the release of the abducted youths and heed his promise.

Gachagua asked that the youths should be released to their families, whether dead or alive, to help promote closure.

“To live up to your words, Mr President, make sure those children are released to their parents before the new year. If they are killed, release their bodies to their parents so they can bury them and have closure,” the former DP said.

Bernard Kavuli, Peter Muteti and Billy Mwangi who were reportedly abducted for sharing AI-generate images of the President.

On Monday, December 30, High Court Judge Bahati Mwamuye gave IG Douglas Kanja seven days to produce the six abducted youths in court. Gideon Kibet, Bernard Kavuli, Peter Muteti, Billy Mwangi, Rony Kiplangat, and Steve Kavingo went missing in December 2024 after they were abducted following sharing anti-Ruto content online.

As cases of abductions continue to increase in the country, President William Ruto has sent a warning to Kenyans who wish to exercise their constitutional rights of protest, saying every ‘right has a limit.’

Speaking during his New Year message to Kenyans on Tuesday, December 31, 2024, the president warned that while the Constitution allows them to protest, they should not misuse this freedom and end up causing harm to others.

“It is crucial to remember that every freedom has its limits and that public safety and order must always supersede the desire for unchecked liberty. We must ensure that our pursuit of rights and freedoms does not compromise our collective or individual safety, nor should we allow criminals to exploit constitutional rights to harm and destroy others,” Ruto warned.

According to Ruto, the freedom and liberty in the Constitution should not be misused and taken advantage of by criminals who aim to harm others.

Busia Senator Okiya Omtatah arrested while protesting in Nairobi CBD on Monday, Dcember 30, 2024.

The warning by Ruto to protestors comes two days after activists led Kenyans to protest against the ongoing cases of abductions.

During the protest that happened on Monday, December 30, 22 Kenyans, including activists, lawyers, and Busia Senator Okiya Omtatah, were arrested, they were later released on Ksh1,000 bail.

The promise of accountability for cases of abduction comes at a time when the country continues to face cases of unprecedented disappearances. Ruto’s sentiments come barely a week after Kenyans witnessed six people being abducted.

On Monday, Justice Bahati Mwamuye directed Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja to personally produce the six individuals abducted by unidentified individuals linked to security agencies.

Peter Muteti, Bernard Kavuli, Billy Mwangi, Gideon Kibet, Rony Kiplangat, and Steve Kavingo, all known critics of President Ruto’s administration, were abducted during the Christmas period and have been missing since then.

As the country ushers in 2025, Ruto has challenged stakeholders to reflect on the failures that have led to the freedoms in the constitution being misused and misinterpreted, harming other Kenyans.

The president has blamed the increase in violent crimes like femicide, abductions, and disappearances on selfishness and a lack of shared values by relevant stakeholders.

“In the spirit of fostering a candid national conversation, I urge every critical stakeholder to reflect deeply on the failures that have led people to adopt radical, individualistic, and self-centred interpretations of rights and freedoms, interpretations that often seem fundamentally opposed to the rights of others and the collective good,” Ruto noted.

The US Embassy in Kenya on Tuesday, December 31, also called for an end to the recent spate of abductions witnessed in Kenya.

Charge d’Affaires Marc Dillard, in a statement, conveyed the message urging for greater responsibility and respect for the rule of law.

Dillard joined the calls by various international organizations, local human rights groups, political leaders, and personalities to put an end to the enforced disappearances that have caused much public uproar.

The increasing calls sparked protests in Nairobi and other major towns in the country as Kenyans demanded the unconditional release of seven individuals who have been allegedly abducted since December 21.
