The Kiambu County government has cracked the whip on commercial sex workers who operate during the day. The county has completely banned prostitutes in the area from conducting their business at day time holding that it is lack of discipline. Kiambu county officials claimed the prostitutes are embarrassing the county. According to Kiambu county government officials, prostitution during the day is taboo in the society hence should be stopped immediately.
The officials held that it was quite off and a big embarrassment to see prostitutes operating openly in the streets from [SIZE=6]as early as 9am[/SIZE]. Speaking to Kiambu county bar owners in a sensitisation meeting held in Thika on Friday, October 5, the county government and Liquour and Licensing board’s officials said prostitution during the day must stop since it has been luring underage children in the trade.
The prostitutes had been operating form as early as 9.00AM. The officials also pleaded with bar owners to ensure they operate within time stipulated in laws that govern them. According to the officials, most prostitutes have been hiding in bars in the area in the disguise of being clients.
