Lea Rose Fiega of Massachusetts got sick with a serious case of COVID-19.

Thankfully, she survived and recovered — but it was a close call.

One day, back at work and on her lunch break, Lea headed over to the convenience store near her office and bought a scratch-off lotto ticket from employee Abhi Shah for the $30 Diamond Millions lottery.

Since she was in a hurry, she quickly scratched off the numbers, took a glance at the result, and determined that she didn’t win.

She gave the losing ticket back to Abhi, whose parents own the convenience store, and asked him to throw it in the trash.

Lea went back to work, and for the next 10 days, the ticket sat in a trash can behind the counter.

Then, as Abhi was sorting through the discarded lottery tickets in the trash, he found Lea’s — and realized she’d left one number completely unscratched.
It was the million-dollar-winning number.

California doctor who drove Tesla off a cliff to be charged with attempted murder

(Reuters) - A doctor whom police say intentionally drove his Tesla off a California cliff - injuring his two children, his wife and himself - will face attempted murder and child abuse charges when released from a hospital where he was in stable condition on Wednesday.

Dharmesh Patel, 41, a radiologist from Pasadena, was placed under arrest after being rescued from the destroyed vehicle at the rocky bottom of Devil’s Slide, a notoriously dangerous cliff above the Pacific Ocean south of San Francisco.
Patel, his 41-year-old wife, his 7-year-old daughter, and his 4-year-old son all survived the nearly 300-foot (91-meter) plunge to the water’s edge.
Patel was transported to the hospital with serious injuries on Monday, the California Highway Patrol said. Authorities plan to book him into the San Mateo County Jail in Redwood City upon his release.

It was not immediately clear whether Patel had retained a lawyer.

Initial media reports after the crash on Monday said the Tesla may have been in full self-driving mode but CHP has since said the driving mode did not appear to have been a contributing factor to the accident.

“Based on the evidence collected, investigators developed probable cause to believe this incident was an intentional act,” CHP said in a statement.

Providence Holy Cross Medical Center, the Los Angeles hospital where Patel works, said it was “deeply saddened” to learn of the incident.
“We are extremely grateful there were no severe injuries,” it said in a statement. “We will not respond further, as this incident is under investigation.”

The rescue took about three hours to complete, said Brian Pottenger, battalion chief of the San Mateo-Santa Cruz Unit.

The children, who had minor injuries, were the first to be rescued after which a helicopter hoisted the adults, who had more serious injuries, Pottenger said.
“The children were secured properly in proper car seats, and the car seats were secured properly into the vehicle,” Pottenger said. “The car seats saved the lives of those two kids, in our opinion.”

Rescue workers responded to a call after 10 a.m. on Monday of a car over the side of the road south of the Tom Lantos Tunnels in the San Francisco area.

The Tesla driven by Patel was traveling on the main part of the roadway before it veered off the cliff, he said.

“There have always been accidents in that area where vehicles have traveled off the roadway over the years,” he said.

Wells Fargo VP Shankar Mishra fired for ‘urinating on passenger’ on plane
Story by Ariel Zilber • 4h ago

Wells Fargo has terminated its vice president of operations in India after he allegedly urinated on a 72-year-old woman while they both flew business class aboard a recent Air India flight.

Shankar Mishra, who worked for Wells Fargo at its Mumbai corporate office, was identified as the executive who was terminated, according to the English-language news site of German public broadcaster Deutsche Welle.

Mishra was said to be drunk while aboard a Nov. 26 flight from New York to New Delhi.

During the flight, Mishra urinated on a 72-year-old woman who was seated next to him in business class, according to the report.

An attorney for Mishra told local media that the banking executive reached a financial settlement with the unidentified victim as compensation.

Mishra also reportedly arranged to have the woman’s clothing and bag cleaned up after it was stained with his urine.

But the woman is said to have returned the money and filed a complaint with the airline. According to the complaint, she asked flight attendants and staff to have Mishra arrested and to keep him away from her.

Instead, the crew “brought the offender before me against my wishes, and we were made to sit opposite each other in the crew seats,” according to The India Times.
Mishra is then reported to have sobered up. He apologized to the woman and begged her not to file a complaint.
Mishra’s tearful expression of remorse persuaded the woman not to have him arrested and charged, according to reports.
Indian police in New Delhi are said to be looking for Mishra, whose whereabouts are unknown, according to the newspaper The Hindu.
The Post has sought comment from Wells Fargo. The bank told Indian media outlets that the employee was fired and that the allegations were “deeply disturbing.”

An Air India spokesperson told The Post: “Air India has taken a very serious view of the incident, where a passenger behaved in an unacceptable and undignified manner on the New York-Delhi flight that caused extreme distress to a fellow passenger.”
“A police complaint has already been lodged and Air India is committed to assisting the law enforcement agencies as well as regulatory authorities,” the airline representative said.

Last year, a 33-year-old California man was charged in federal court after allegedly asking a Southwest Airlines flight attendant if she’d like to see his penis before urinating on the cabin floor.

In June, a TikTok user posted video of a drunken man who was hauled off a plane by Greek police for allegedly urinating on his brother and provoking a mid-flight fistfight.

Air India slammed for ‘systemic failure’ after Nasty Baniani passenger flying business class urinated on a woman traveling from New York

India’s aviation regulator, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), said Thursday that Air India had not followed protocol when a disorderly male passenger on a Nov. 26 flight from New York to Delhi urinated on an elderly woman who was also traveling onboard.

He was traveling in business class, the Hindustan Times reported.

Air India—which is owned by Tata Group—said on Wednesday that it had banned the male passenger from its flights for a month as required by regulations, and had reported the incident to the DGCA.

However, DGCA said in its statement that the man, who was said to be intoxicated when the incident occurred, was not dealt with by Air India staff in a way that complied with provisions for handling unruly air passengers.

“The conduct of the concerned airline appears to be unprofessional and has led to a systemic failure,” DGCA said, as reported by local news outlets in India.

On Thursday, Air India reported a second incident during a Dec. 6 flight between Paris and Delhi, news agency Reuters reported, which saw another male passenger urinate on an empty seat and the blanket of a fellow passenger. Air India reportedly said the passenger on the Paris flight had been arrested on arrival at Delhi but was released by police after coming to an understanding with the victim.
