Things Learnt Along The Way: Design Optimization

A bit of a lengthy…technical note.
The concept of optimization is basic to what we do on our daily lives, a
desire to do better or be the best in our fields.
In design and eng, the aim is to produce the best possible result with the
available resources. In a highly competitive modern world, it is no longer
sufficient to design a system whose performance of the required task is
just satisfactory: No, it has to delight. Thus in designing new products in
any field, we must use tools which provide the desired results in a timely
and economical fashion eg MatLab, Solidworks, Autodesk etc.
Analysis is the proces of determining the response of the specified system
to certain combination of input parameters. Design means process of
defining a system, selecting specific dimensions&location of structural
components that will allow the structure to withstand specified
function&load.
Optimization aids in rationally searching among alternative designs for
the best design to meet specified needs, alternatives of the system differ
from each other because parameters are not the same and these
parameters that could be changed are design variables.
For design to be acceptable, it must satisfy certain requirments: Design
constraints and these can keep you awake for nights figuring out how to
achieve them and optimization helps us find the minimum or maximum
objective functions while satisfying all the required design constraints. By
doing so, optimization help you improve the performance of the original
configuration as we seek to reduce our ecological footprint of the
products that we make without compromising on performance.
Optimization is done during the design phase and the info picked up
support smart design optimization decisions early in the process for
virtually all products.
.Build a better performing design faster and more affordably
.Reach a design ultimate performance
.Meet the optimum and fit the design constraints
.Balance confljcting objectives
.Use CAD models to correlate measurments
.Calibrate simulations models to examine virtual simulation
accurately,real world conditions.
Oh and remember non of your customers will care about all that.

ugly face, wacha kutusumbua

    500 L000
they are in Msa. Get your brakepads btw?

When designing a product it bas its own process, functionality and form that needs to be followed and thats where optimizing it for real world conditions are needed, like wind and fluid flow analysis et al

Yep

Thank you.
Not really. I don’t have an FB account yet. But will create one.

Good. Thank you. Hiyo maneno ingine miiiingi ilikuwa?

Still breaking down everything we do to its constituent components and getting a tone of insights on things I had never thought of. The aboveis just something learnt ovef time

The details, and thats where the devil is
