During his untroubled days as Kiambu County Governor, Ferdinand Waititu was a jolly man. He had close political associates he regarded as friends.
In fact, in the run up to the 2017 General Election, he was a darling to many who’s who in political circles including President Uhuru Kenyatta and his Deputy William Ruto thanks to the huge political base he commanded in the vote-rich county.
In Kiambu, specifically, business moguls and corporates bankrolled Mr Waititu’s campaigns despite fears that his abrasive political style may have ripple effects on their businesses.
To the business community, they were not his friends but were playing safe. Mr Waititu went on to win, but his stint at the top did not last very long.
However, things have gone south in every way: he recently lost his plum job at the helm of one of Kenya’s wealthiest counties. He is also fighting a Sh588 million corruption case in the corridors of justice.

Now, Mr Waititu claims that the people he thought were his friends and who benefitted from his influence to gain votes from the public have sidelined him, adding that they neither reach out nor picks his calls.
“I have now understood the politics better. When I was Kiambu Governor, I used to receive a lot of calls from different people especially politicians seeking different favours from me. Some I built their careers and helped them win but now they don’t pick my calls when I call them,” Mr Waititu told the Nation yesterday without naming names.
“I stopped calling them but that is the nature of politics. People calling you when you are in a position to help them but not when you are out of politics,” he lamented.
The former governor was impeached by the Kiambu County Assembly late December over corruption allegations and conflict of interest for allowing his close family members to do business with the county.
His impeachment by the Ward Reps was later upheld by the majority in the Senate.
He tried to fight his ouster in court but lost that battle too.
‘ORDINARY MAN’
Mr Waititu says he is now like an ordinary Kenyan after his official vehicles were withdrawn and his security detail withdrawn. To date, he says he has never understood how it happened and how swiftly it moved.
“My friend…I am now like an ordinary citizen. My official vehicles were withdrawn including my security after I was impeached. I don’t know who ordered for the vehicles to be withdrawn. I returned everything I had from the county. I don’t have anything…including a bicycle,” he told this reporter.
The former governor says he is not interested in politics for now, but this does not mean he has hang his boots just yet.
“In politics you don’t retire. I have just taken some time off from the politics but I will be back soon,” he said
For now, the impeached Governor says he is focused on running his businesses that are spread across real estate, hospitality and public service vehicles among others.
He maintains that he does not want to comment about Kiambu County affairs.
“I do not want to talk about Kiambu County because I am not involved in how it is being run,” he said.

He stole alone and was mesmerised by power given to him by Muthamaki. In politics you must be very ruthless and cunning. Most people just act around you and exploit your vanity to benefit.

That is why some politicians will only meet associates in hotels and never at their homes. They will chew pure lanye or semi lanye and pay and ghost. They will demand payment before award of tender. They will sell job slots and nomination slots. They will charge to appear at your rally etc.

Jimmy Angwenyi once told me that when he lost in 2007 he really suffered until his friend Kiraitu made him Chair 2 parastatals. He could operate with GK za Parastatal and have some status.

One time a buddy of mine who was a senior MP told me they went to coast for annual leadership Retreat ya National Assembly. Then in one session Jakoyo Midiwo told them that they should invest so that when they lose they don’t come begging from him. It was implicit that he viewed himself as a direct member of the next Parliament.

Sasa since Midiwo lost and was out of favour with his cousin,Tinga, aliumia Sana. His businesses were not doing well and phone went silent. Juzi I saw the fellow defect back to ODM so that he can enjoy warmth.

Orengo was out between 2002-2007. He really suffered and went to live with Betty Murungi in Mountain view. She sheltered him until akawa Minister for lands Kisha he made a mysterious fortune. Built Two homes for wives at home in Ugenya with a place for chopper to land and pilot to sleep.

The only man I really respect after he lost elections and power is the late Biwott. He had made crazy cash and was quick to co-opt the hungry Narc Mafias with cash and property. Wakaachana na yeye. Then he still had informers where it mattered. One time he told me that he went to see the head of either KERRA or KURA who was engineer Kidenda. He said that the fellow was trembling when he asked why a certain road was not build because the excuse since 1989 was that the escarpment was settling.
Then one time tukapata some few MPs mahali all of them stood up and addressed him as Mheshimiwa with a lot of deference. Even Uhuru used to greet him with two hands. But a very important lesson was that if out of power support the govt of the day and let the tribe ruling make the most noise even if you know better.

Politics is a dirty game.

Ata yeye akiwa busy as governor alikuwa anashika simu za idlers? Awache kusumbua.

Valid points but Unge uliza Biwott kwa nini he killed Ouko

But kibe had said this a Long time ago.People are together for convenience purposes

Aulize Dr.Bitange Ndemo hii story

:D:D Bitange Ndemo hadi anaambia wife ati ampigie simu ndio aone kama ni phone yake iko na shida… nobody was calling him

In this life, the only TRUE friend u have is YOUR MONEY & SKILLS. Never stop cultivating those two or compromise them for FRIENDS or WIVES

Kidenda was first DG at Kenha after the split from MoR.

What is wrong with nobody calling you? If you are lonely call your mother or your wife or kids. Yaani even grown ass men are this needy and clingy. Mimi hata nikublock na lock watu meanwhile others are complaining about people not calling them or picking their calls. Upuzi mtupu.

I have been forced to have my WhatsApp on an unknown number so that watu wasinisumbue kwa WhatsApp on my main line. One day nilifanya mistake nikaingia Telgram on my main number in the middle of the night past 10pm,even 30 seconds hazikuisha some characters who I want no contact with ndio hao. Ati hi kwani you are not on WhatsApp umepotelea wapi. My friend I had to Uninstall the damn thing very fast. Kuna watu nimeblock mpaka kwa email.

This is the best life. Hakuna mtu anakusumbua except immediate family. Hao wengine to hell with them. I love keeping to myself, a close rela of mine alioa a very arrogant woman, can I tell you that we live in the same city or town and I don’t know where they live. Wakinialika birthday ya watoto. I send gifts and cards and I say I had unavoidable commitments. Hadi watoi wamekuwa wakubwa. Me I am a real city girl ukitaka kunionyesha wewe ndio unajua attitude utajua haujui. I will not pick your calls, sms only, even my boss can’t call me, they sms me, simu ni yangu sio yetu, so don’t expect ati am at your beck and call. You call at anytime and expect me to pick.

The way I see it, friends consume alot of energy so one less friend or relative bothering you , one less demand, one less person to hog my time. I have more time for myself. Win Win. I am a very big asset as a friend or relative so I value my time. Nikiona you are taking me for granted it does not bother me one ounce. I am just like it’s your loss and I move on. And for sure in hindsight you will regret losing me at one point or another bcz people like me are very rare in today’s world. I often find people from my past making their way back into my life after realizing that watu wangwana in this world are too few that you can not afford to lose one if you ever meet one to begin. It’s like losing a unicorn. So me such things never bother me because I know that I am a very serious and rare kind of asset. So ukiona you do not need me somebody else will bcz we are rare. Hatutoshi. Ama hatupatikani. Ukipata mtu Roho Safi hivyo umeangukia pigia Mungu shukrani. So hizi vitu they never bother me. I know my value. Na kweli hata exes zangu hakuna mwenye alipata mtu hata ananikaribia so even them they know nilikua mtu wa maana sana. Only that human beings understand things better in hind sight ukiwa nao they take you for granted. Ukiwatoka ndio watajirudia waone hapa nje kupata mtu kama huyu ni ngumu sana if not impossible. When you know your value, kuna vitu huwa hazikusumbui. If someone stops contacting you you know the loser is them not you bcz you add more value to their life than they add to your life. It’s only worthless people who need ego massages from fake friends ati nobody is calling me nowadays. THE BETTER FOR ME SO THAT I CAN GET MORE TIME FOR MYSELF AND MORE FREE TIME TO SPEND WITH GOD INSTEAD OF ON YOU. Majority of so called frens are just a waste of time that you can invest into better things. Unataka watu wa kupigie simu kwa nini? Hawa no watu wako na low value IRL or low self esteem.

Mimi just make a mistake uji withdraw. Ati so that I can chase you. Utashangaa. Utangoja ungoooje. Next time you call me I will be like who is this? Sina time ya kubembeleza mtu hanilishi na sikai kwake. Enda ubembelezwe na mamako. The devil may care but not me.

I stand guided sir. Thankyou

We wacha hiyo. Tinga never asked when appointing his wife as minister. Mimi Ni Nani?

wewe huelewi…these are " calls"…yaani business calls…what he means is that nobody seeks you out for business or deals anymore

Who cares. When you become famous again watarudi tuu. What deals will you do and you are under investigation, if anything your calls are even being monitored, unataka marafiki pia waingie kwa radar ya EACC?

@Masood you mean Jimmy is polygamous kama sisi?

Andrrew Kibe said friends are situational

Waititu is an introvert. He will survive this.
He has done so before.

Hapana. Prof. Margaret Kamar ilikuwa kitu ya Total Man. She became ahigher Education Minister when Huster was chased by Tinga.
