There Was A Time When Houses In Muthurwa, Jericho Etc All Had Wooden Doors & No Break-ins.

Back when Kenya was still a young nation, estates with Nairobi had houses that had flimsy wooden doors and wooden windows with no metal grills.

A few such houses still remain but by today’s standards they are ghettos.

Some 1st generation civil servants who used to reside along Jogoo Road and other 1960s estates left those houses to their children who in turn left them to their children and now in 2023 some are occupied by the fourth generation.

local authorities house are very hard to get,

Blame the administration. First world countries have districts assigned for development, be it educational, financial , governance, agricultural, tech or what have you. Bonobos have it all in one tiny city of 696sqkm harboring 5million souls in clustered habitats

True in all counties kupata nyumba za kanjo ni stress iyo pia ni cartel ingine

It’s because they’re cheap rent wise.

Those houses were built with toxic materials including asbestos roofs and ceilings, lead water pipes and lead paint. With time, the asbestos disintegrates causing an asbestos haze of fibers that is carcinogenic. It can cause lung mesothelioma. Lead water pipes cause cognitive impairment in children and more. These old council houses need to be razed to create space for modern high rise apartments.
