Not attacking anybody just curious.
Sometimes its about China. Last week was Tanzania.
Among other reasons, USA is said to be the beacon of democracy so we gotta know what’s up.
It’s the world’s biggest reality show.
At this pace, season finale may be coming soon.
The father of democracy is ancient Greece.
I’m interested in all politics. I was anti-brexit. I am for Jeremy Corbyn (he is my favourite politician of all time). I supported Syriza in Greece and in particular their minister of Finance at the time, Yanis Varoufakis.
Germany is one of the few countries where I lean on the right in their politics. I support the CDU though for living I would much rather live in a state governed by the SDP. I support many of Putin’s anti US hegemony policies on the world stage.
I am an unwilling William Ruto supporter in Kenya. I am a closet supporter of Magafuli (though I condemn his latest actions).
I’m anti-Monarchy in the UK, anti-Monarchy in Thailand. Pro Democracy in Hongkong. Anti-dynasties in Philippines.
At the end of the day, all politics affect people and American policies affect us here in Kenya. I know farmers who depend on USAID money. There’s a talker in the textile industry I think who depends on access to the US market. We are waging a war against our neighbours SOmalia at the Aegis and Bankrolling of the USA. Remember that next time you lose a loved on to a retaliatory attack.
All politics is inter-connected and affects people. That enough should be reason to make you care.
You clearly know your stuff! Thanks for the knowledge
Lol
Too many contradictions. How can you anti US hegemony but then be pro Hong Kong’s so called democracy?
because their politics are like a live drama show on HBO
As for my exact position in the US politics, it is layered, fluid and nuanced. At heart I am a liberal. I was a dyed in the wool supporter of the Democratic Party during the Bush years. Like everyone else in the world at the time. I celebrated the Obama victory. I remember we even had a watch party where we followed that election very emotionally. My friend James had actually travelled to Berlin to see this Obama man in person.
It did not take long to be disillusioned with Obama. When his first action as U.S. President was a trillion dollar bailout of Wall Street. It became instantly clear who his masters were. Louis Farrakhan’s words came ringing in the ears. “No Juniour Senator in the U.S. can just wake up and decide to be the US President. My brothers, he was SELECTED before he was ELECTED.”
What followed next was painful. My heart was smashed to pieces the day I watched Gaddafi being drugged through the streets of Libya. When I watched the terrorists trained and financed by Obama walking around Syria beheading people. Their treatment of Chelsea Manning (formerly Bradley Manning). The Obama administration went on to wage an unprecedented war against whistle blowers (prosecuted more Whistleblowers than all other presidents combined).
Then came 2016 and I could not wait to see the back of Barrack Obama. And what’s even better, Bernie Sanders was throwing his hat in the ring. And I thought to myself. Fantastic! A chance for the Democrats to redeem themselves. What happened in 2016 to Bernie Sanders just completely alienated me from the Democratic Party in particular the DNC. They wanted Hillary Clinton by force. I became somewhat indifferent in that campaign but was secretly happy to see Clinton lose.
I was open minded about Trump. Which allowed me to see the media campaign against him with clear eyes. I’m not a fan. But he was a breath of fresh air from the murderous, duplicitous 8 years of chaos we as the world had just emerged from.
I have an unfavourable opinion of the USA regardless of who is in power. But the difference is that Trump is tolerable, while the Democrats just give me PTSD. I’m not looking forward to another 8 years of their adventures around the world. Hillary Clinton’s laugh makes me sick to the stomach.
Because politics is fluid and local. You can not achieve congruency in Politics. I was firmly anti-Ruto just a couple of years ago. I am pro Jeremy Corbyn but anti-Brexit. Pro FDP and also Pro-Welfare. I lean on the right in Germany, on the left in the UK and in the Center in France. I am comfortably able to hold many seemingly contradictory political opinions simultaneously. You support a position that’s seeking to achieve an end, not to define yourself.
USA is not a democracy though. Its a republic. Otherwise the popular vote would suffice. The U.S. flag song, “I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America, and to the republic…”
Gambling
I see what you mean, USA politics is somewhat complex. I like to think it’s both a democracy and a republic
I care because what happens in the US impacts me individually since I work with an organization where 70% of its budgets are funded US Federal govt organizations including DFC, USAID and others like The Melany Trump pet project W-GDP. So any policy changes brought by a new president affecting them may means my kids and I sleeping hungry. So I have to care.
That’s understandable keep doing you.
Democrats will shove the gay and abortion agenda down our throats
Caring is okay. I do care to and follow it.
But what I suspect @MojaMoja is alluding to is the obsession some of us have with the US election. To an extent unasikia “we have lost, we have won”, “me as a democrat” etc. Same way we are obsessed with Epl.
We arent so keen on other countries as the US. Na mtu asiseme ati democracy. That’s bullshit. Other nations have better systems to emulate n follow. Yet…
Sasa mahomo wataanza kutesa kua
KTALK has a fairly huge number of Kenyans residing in Trumpistan. Also American news generates a lot of interest worldwide. It is a whole new world over there. It is the land of v many opportunities if you do what you are supposed to do, keep your head down, stay out of trouble all dat.
Trump also raised America’s profile for the wrong reasons. Many will be celebrating his defeat if he loses.
