Africa must demonstrate that it is competent in managing sophisticated economies for the benefit of all its people. It’s about creating wealth that is self-sustainable; the infrastructure to support wealth creation; and taking responsibility for its development. Relying on donors to fund economies has created dependency with very little to show for it. It may have been well-intentioned, but it removed ownership and allowed corruption to embed itself.
Africa continues to pass through approaches which have not worked in the past and won’t work in the future.
South Africa has shown its people how not to do things and little has been learnt over the years. Does anyone in that country see the future without despairing?
No matter how much you want to blame imperialism or colonialism for all your ills, Africa at the time, was there for the taking and no-one was able to stop them. Since time immemorial colonialism has thrived across this earth and is nothing more than a mere detail of history, but in Africa, it managed to build up economies which provided jobs, schools, healthcare, housing, safety, food and a future, where everything got better for everyone all the time.(If it wasn’t the European powers, somebody else would have taken it such as the Chinese and subsequently assimilated into Chinese culture by the migration of tens of millions of citizens? Look at Tibet?).
Everything created has been utterly destroyed by corrupt leaders who said they represented the interests of the people. A forlorn hope, that turned out to be. No wonder colonialists didn’t want to give up power, they only saw a future of utter destruction and they were correct. The wealth created for many of these countries was far greater than any wealth squirrelled away for the benefit of their colonial powers. The empathy many felt for its natives makes a mockery of claims to the contrary. Nothing is perfect, colonialism wasn’t perfect, but much of it was a heroic attempt to create something out of nothing for all its people’s. Independence and black nationalism, ably supported by the likes of China and Russia, was nothing more than a cynical attempt to curry favour and benefit from the resulting mayhem.
Africa wasn’t then ready to join the modern world. Will it be different this time? I think not?
This is very very very true
Bingwa,ni nini usumbua kichwa yako kusema tuu ukweli? Kwani wakati ulikuwa mogadishu ulirushiwa grenade kwa kichwa ama?
Funny. An Indian telling Africans you’re so poor and desperate but it could have been worse without colonialism. That you referred to the African race instead of African countries speaks to your intention of racial slander. If you have any ideas of how African countries can improve their lot, we’ll be happy to discuss it but not while you mix it up with your brown-ass superiority complex.
