This wasp is one of several new species discovered in Thailand’s Mekong Delta last year, according to the World Wildlife Fund.

Dementor wasps, like most of the Ampulex genus, eat roaches. The wasp’s sting targets a bundle of nerves on the roach’s abdomen, where its venom blocks receptors for a chemical called octopamine, a neurotransmitter for voluntary movement. With the receptors blocked, the roach’s nerves can’t receive it’s brain’s signals to move. Its body is mobile, but it’s no longer under the roach’s control. The dementor wasp drags its helpless prey back to the nest and eats it alive.

This wasp enslaves cockroaches by stinging their brains in ridiculously precise spots and injecting mind-controlling venom. The wasp then leads its zombified roach to a burrow, where it lays a single egg on its perfectly relaxed host and seals it inside with pebbles. Once it hatches, the larva bores into the cockroach and feeds off its organs before killing it and emerging from its corpse into the light of day.

Most of hymenoptera species use other insects as breeding grounds for their eggs. That is why they are used as natural enemies to fight pests in the farms. They lay eggs inside living hosts and ones it hatchest into pupa and larvae they feed on the internal organs of the host only emerging after they have reached maturity, sometimes even before the insect host has died. The stuff of horror movies.

Ladybug iko hapa? coz. I know its used as natural insecticide.

EDIT: Further reading has shown ladybug is not this evil, at least they don’t lay their eggs inside other insects

Hymenoptera is the third-largest order of insects, comprising the sawflies, wasps, bees, and ants. Over 150,000 species are recognized, with many more remaining to be described. Wikipedia

Lady bugs just love taking a generous bite out of smaller insects.
Insects such as wasps use what we call the ovipositor to lay eggs inside other insects. Mostly, they target larvae and pupa stages of insects i.e the caterpillar. It will lay several eggs inside a caterpillar and they will hatch and feed on the innards before it turns into a beautiful butterfly.
