Nyahururu was always in Nyandarua…was actually the headquarters of (the then) Nyandarua district. The move was a farce because administrative responsibilities such as the supervision of Maina Village Primary school, five kilometers from the town center to the North, remained under the DEO Nyandarua. successful administrations kept nudging Nyandaruans to move their headquarters to Ol Kalou and apparently they have succeeded to an extent. but whether the town is in LKP or Nyandarua, the residents themselves want to be where they can access services quickly, they are weighing between whether they want to drive 36 kilometers to a county headquarters in Ol Kalou or 170 kilometers to one in Nanyuki…only a referendum for self determination will help the people of Nyahururu.
