The rise of the Persians

Iran have been officially invited to join the round table discussions on Syria, signalling their growing importance and influence in setting the agenda of the Middle East. Considering the recent scaling down of economic sanctions by the West, it appears Iran’s economy is set for some much awaited rejuvenation after years of being down in the dirt. Funds and resources that had been frozen abroad in foreign accounts will now be released back to the Iranian’s, and they will be allowed to once again play in the global marketplace. One has to wonder what the Iranians will get up to with all the money headed their way. Will they increase support to the likes of Hezbollah, Hamas and the Houthis thus grow their influence all over the region? Will they modernize and scale up their military to a level that makes Israel jittery? Or will they look for ways to undermine the dominance of the Sunni gulf states who call the shots in the region? Either way the signs are on the wall that the Persians are back, and the power balance in the Middle East is definitely changing.
