Yes Kibaki stole 2007 elections but so did Raila otherwise how do you explain over 100% in his stronghold. The only difference is Kibaki stole more otherwise at ceteris paribus Raila would still have won.
I think 1982 was a case of too many cooks, Kibaki was meant to be one of the casualties.
There was a [COLOR=rgb(226, 80, 65)]rumour that Patrick Shaw was assigned to kill Kibaki after 1982 when Moi decided to hoard all power. But Mr Shaw had no intention to kill an innocent man so he told him about his mission and then told him he was not going to kill him.

The writer could not have said it any better. Moi was obviously driven by the need to keep a tight grip onto his power. It therefore made sense for him to be keen about the political maneuvers happening in the country.
On the contrary, Kibaki was a man driven by the need for development. Political gossip made him sick.
