THE PEACE OF JESUS
Jesus has taken Hs time to speak on the promise of the Holy Spirit. He knew it was time to go back home. He knew the disciples had been with Him for about three years now, and they have not learned enough, also, they have depended on Him all through. If He should leave them, on whom would they depend? For the continuity of His existence in them, they would need the unquestionable peace. The worldly place is usually defined as the absence of conflict, but the PEACE of Jesus is confident assurance in any circumstance; with Christ’s peace, we have no need to fear the present or the future. Jesus promised the disciples that the Holy Spirit would help them remember what He had taught them. This promise ensures the validity of the New Testament. The Holy Spirit can help us the same way today. As we study the bible, we can trust Him to plant the truth in our mind, convince us of God’s will and remind us when we stray from it. The end result of the work of the Holy Spirit in our lives is deep and lasting peace. Sin, fear, uncertainty, doubt, and numerous other forces are at war within us. The peace of God moves into our hearts and lives to restrain these hostile forces and offer comfort in place of conflict. Jesus says He will give us that peace, if we are willing to accept it from Him. If your life is full of stress, allow the Holy Spirit to fill you with Christ’s Peace. ‘Have no anxiety about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the Peace of God which passeth all understanding, will keep your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus”Phillippians 4:6, 7 (RSV)
