It does 500km on a single charge which is like nairobi to mombasa. And the car can be charged on a normal wall power outlet kama simu.

Making electric cars is quite easy because electric motors are easy to make unlike making complicated petrol engines which have thousands of components that must work together.

Just like the way electric motors replaced diesel engines in village posho mills, electric motors will replace petrol and diesel engines in cars.

Challenge hapa ni charging. 1st, there’s no widespread charging network, like fuel stations. 2nd, who is ready to wait 1 day or more (we have no fast chargers in Kenya - in addition to point 1) to charge a smart device on wheels just to travel? Moreover, this is old tech that was abandoned more than a century ago due to its limited range after invention of the internal combustion engine. Short of miraculous advance in tech where a battery can be fully charged in less tan 5 minutes, and an existence of extensive charging network (which will not overload), BEVs will be a curiousity that will fizzle out with time.

They were using lead acid batteries those days which required a whole day to charge and were very heavy. Siku hizi the advanced lithium batteries charge in 30 minutes and can power a car for 500km on a single charge.

Modern EVs get charged from 0 to 80 percent in 30 minutes and that gives you like 300km

What’s the lifespan of these figures before aging of car and battery become factors?

Okay. You and @Landlord keep saying they charge in 30 minutes, but no one is mentioning the non-existent infrastructure to charge in 30 minutes. With the normal Kenyan 240 volts outlet, it will take you about 8 hours to gain a full charge. Ole wako kama unaishi 8th floor na uko na hio device on wheels. Again, compared to cars that can be fueled full tank in about 5 minutes, giving you a real range on about 600 to 800km, I think the internal combustion engine wins this argument for a long time to come.

Finally, with electric devices on wheels, you need to plan your trips around charging and time taken to charge. With an engine, its all about moving when you want. Mafuta ikiisha safarini, unatumana kwa jerrycan.

Kama uko na EV charging outlet haifai kuwa shida, 8 hrs kwanza is good enough kama unafanya nayo daily commute ama Uber, for a full charge kwa hizo stations wanalipisha like ksh 800, na hapo uko na 320km…

Adoption ya hizi EV ni watu kuogopa being the trial runners huku, was surprised China vile watu wame adopt hizi EV, shida pekee ni long roadtrips out of town that are unplanned, but cost saving kwa hii gari ni mzuri sana.

Also weather huku is very favourable, huko Europe during harsh Winters capacity ya this thing drops hadi kama 20%, I might have exaggerated but huwa mbovu sana in cold places

Nimekuwa nikiangalia kama hiyo SU7 non aggressive driving kama 80kph na unapata range ya 800km, nimekuwa nikiangalia hii kitu sana, especially from a business perspective hapa you’d make a knockout killing. Within 1 year from the excise duty relief, cheaper electricity and low maintenance hapa cashback unapata mzuri sana.

As a 2nd car, it’s a no brainer but as a main family car it’s doable but planning should be made.

Running an electric car is super cheap being ya nduthi. hakuna components mob za Omosh to tinker nazo kisa akuskumie Njoro the spares guy to milk you further. Only issue is cost of acquisition. Off the factory floor it can cost $20,000 in china. Kitambo you ship it here na taxes and shipping itakua over double so the lil toy will be almost 5 million.

Our only hope is for kasongo to walk the climate evangelist talk and zero rate green tech, hiyo plus solar energy is a sure game changer. But najua those are far fetched dreams. More plausible is for a Chinese mcar manufacturer to come and set up an evehicle plant huku. But too many vested interests maybe another ten years before we enjoy affordable electric vehicles
