Spiritual maturity is the decreasing frequency of sin. You sin, but you just don’t sin as often. You don’t sin with the same familiarity, the same speed, and the same consistency. It begins to slow down and diminish. It is the increased sensitivity to sin brought about by a deepening awareness of our dependence on Christ.
Hebrews 5:13. Anyone who lives on milk, being still an infant, is not acquainted with the teaching about righteousness. 14But solid food is for the mature, who by constant use have trained themselves to distinguish good from evil.
No matter how old we grow, we never outgrow our dependence on God. Each day brings us back to the same place, not as a step backward, but as a deeper awareness of what has always been true. “Apart from Me you can do nothing." John 15:5.
