The curse of 2007 elections lives on

We seem to forget or delink the lawlessness and poor leadership in the country from the 2007 elections.

After the 2007 elections, everyone went into a looting, assassination, taking power by any means necessary mode.

Under the watch and leadership of Uhuru and Ruto, witnesses disappeared and most were found dead while others confessed to being coached.

It’s possible, the 2 top indictees, Uhuru and Ruto, used the state and all it’s resources to ensure the case collapses.

The repercussions of their activities are massive debts, a dead chapter on integrity in the constitution, loss of lives, the country committing to partnerships it would otherwise not have been part of etc

The country has an opportunity to bring the ‘choices have consequences’ reality to an end when the coming general election happens. Unfortunately, the country seems not to see beyond Uhuru and Ruto. It seems to be warming up to an Uhuru sponsored candidate vs Ruto.

Interestingly, since 2007, the mountain has always decided which way the country goes but with very negative consequences. They have never gotten it right. It looks like a curse of numbers and power to them.

While Fred Matiangi looks like a good option that will free the country from the curse of KANU ruling the country for 100 years as predicted by mzee Moi, it is dangerous to ignore he is Uhuru Kenyatta’s project and his cabinet will likely be made of Uhuru men.A look down the history shows Matiangi at some point worked with mzee Nyachae. So in reality the change Kenyans yearn for is not yet here.

The other candidates who seem to represent what the people want are Okiyas Omtata, David Maraga and Jimmy Wanjigi. While they talk what the people want, their organization and mobilization has already pointed a picture of 3rd runners up. They seem to lack the fighting machinery to counter those in power as it is known they will do all manner of tactics to win. That alone leaves them with very few votes.

In conclusion, Ruto’s selling point is, and Moi used it too, the rest of the country is better of under him than a government with a thinking of the likes of Irungu Nyakeras. A government that discriminates then later claims the discriminated areas add no value. That, plus highlighting Uhuru comeback via Matiangi (already Ruto has always pointed out how Uhuru mismanaged the country,he packages this as an effective SHA open to all people and hospitals, eliminating the risk of debt default, including minorities in leadership and initiating development in their marginalized areas etc) guarantees Ruto a fighting chance come 2027.

So many curses, it looks like we are now in a loop that will only be solved by change in generations and natural attrition. Like the Israelites going round in the desert untill new generations were born and very few who left Egypt arrived in Canaan.
