The curious case of JKUAT stooping too low re Taifa laptops

Yesterday I watched a news piece on TV that left me seething with anger like @uwesmake after a momo drank his Gilbeys and refused with slices. Apparently JKUAT is forcing freshers to buy their custom made Kariobangi Taifa laptops as part of the joining requirements. This is in addition to the stupid Xrays that they also make freshers undertake. At 41000, these machines are too expensive for some Kenyans. There are students who have one meal per day courtesy of HELB only!! Where will they get the 41k??? Yes there are arrangement to pay in instalments but still… Are there arrangements for needy students to buy books from the University bookshop in instalments as well??? Why only laptops?
As an alumni of the said University, I feel bad that the Administration wants to hit sales targets for the largely lacklustre Taifa laptop by forcing guys to buy half baked machines at 41 000 ksh. I watched in dismay as one official, RO, tried to justify the decision by saying that the Taifa chieth is superior to what a Kenyan can buy off the streets. I wondered kwani the good Prof is giving freshers Core i7 32GB Alienware machines at 41000??? For your information, the Taifa has core i3 processor, 500GB HDD and 4 gb RAM. In the average Nairobi shop, that Taifa would cost 25 000 at most.
This is not 1995 when computer technology was as developed as @culture 's brain my friend. Kenyans are now informed. If the average form 4 leaver is given 41 000, they will buy a machine with twice the capabilities of Taifa chieth. It is also unfair to force the students who cannot afford a laptop to buy one. Is the Univeristy forcing them to buy books as well??? This is nothing but exploitation and the University needs to wake up and smell the rain. We are in 2016, not 1996. Wacheni kubeba wakenya ufala.

*end of rant

lol:D:D

:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D… uwesmakei hapa hujaambiwa poa

Boss you did not read post ya @Jakoyo yesterday you rant there?

wapi naweza pata core i3 ya 25k

enyewe sikuona.
however, that was news- this is a distinguished alumni’s perspective

hehe juja boys unaita Uni?

hata i5 utapata my friend. tembea jiji wachana na Ebrahims

It is not even about the price. The university should not force anyone to buy a laptop from them. What if I already have a laptop of mine that is superior in specs, do I also need to buy the Taifa nonesense?

that was in the 1990s ukiwa embryo.
Sai kuna ma fine thank you who can milk you hata bone marrow juu akili inaonekana huna :D.
tembea. kama huna fare, sema

exactly

Well…What JKUAT is doing is myopic, unjustified and stupid. On the other hand, there is no new full size laptop with those specs and good build quality that goes for 25k.
Refurb…yes, new…no.

How does this add value to your argument?o_O

Hizo ni refab buda.

hata kama. pia gari ni za 8 years plus na ni kama mpya

the same way the receptionists added you to their hit list

That is total ripoff. Where is cord when we need them most? We should demonstrate until university officials resign.

If regular students are being forced to buy…it will not end well…

:eek::D:D:D:D:D

Hapo umenena, Wakienda hiyo route itakua ngori.
