Most high school principals are in either in N or P (note that they are known by different names these days). Range ya basic salary ya ‘N’ ishuge, from about 68-87K and house allowance of 35 (in Nairobi). Salary ya P iko hapo juu. Senior principals however (those institutes and national schools) are in JG R and some in JG S. Basic ya R start from 112K kwenda juu, ya S ni huko 170K kwenda juu and big house allowance

P is a very senior position in civil service. Ndio unasikia wakiitwa assistant directors. N ndio wanaitwa principals. R wanaitwa deputy directors while S ndio directors. Actually, new high school principals (most) wako N, not P.

One of the best perks za high school teacher…in my days back then ni anakuwanga free kufanya biashara zake kama hako class…akipanga classes zake poa…anafanya biashara zake in between unlike primary school mwalimu ambao huingia asubuhi wanatoka jioni kama wanafunzi…like someone said here…most had side hustles(wanawake)…ama wanaenda kulewa na kula nyama mtaani(wanaume)

High school teachers start at what used to be Job group K, basic salary=35-45K, house allowance=16k in Nairobi(lower in some other areas), commuter=6k, leave allowance=6k(once per year), if you are in a hardship area, allowance is 15k

Then you get leave 3 times per year (during holidays).

Junior high school principals start at job group P, starting basic salary=87-121K, house allowance=45K (in Nairobi and cities), commuter=12K.

Minimum years before promotion is 3 years

Ma prof wa public unis take home around 170k (net). Looks rewarding to stick to seco teaching and side hustling like fuck. Hii masomo haidaidii

Wacha uwongo boss, primary school teachers, at the minimum, are in job group J, basic of 28,000. Net income after taxes is over 30K
