a true rastafarian and one of the roots prophet with his visionary song natural mystic.
his songs older than nearly every lister here. more than fifty years old still rock the airwaves.
one love,redemption,no woman no cry,buffalo soldiers…
i dont think there anybody who hasnt listened to his songs when growing up.
Dem lyrics…
When I meet you around the corner (round the
corner),
You make me feel like a sweepstake winner (a
sweep - a sweepstake winner).
Whoa, child! Can’t you see? You must believe me!
Oh darling, darling, I’m calling, calling:
Can’t you see? Why won’t you believe me?
Oh, darling, darling, I’m calling, calling
Im not the biggest fan of reggae, and I dont listen to it a whole lot, but someone please tell me what is the big deal with Bob Marley? Its not like he invented the genre of music. Yes, there is a strong politico-social messages in his songs, and some are quite entertaining. Beyond that, what is so mythic about him?
And you can’t be a living legend if you are quite in fact, dead.

Pimper’s Paradise"
She love to party, have a good time;
She looks so hearty, feeling fine;
She loves to smoke, sometime shiftin’ coke;
She’ll be laughin’ when there ain’t no joke.
A pimper’s paradise: that’s all she was now;
A pimper’s paradise: that’s all she was;
A pimper’s paradise: that’s all she was now;
Pimper’s paradise: that’s all she was.
(Every need got an ego to feed;
Every need got an ego to feed.)
She loves to model up in the latest fashion (oo-bee doo-be doo);
She’s in the scramble and she moves with passion (oo-bee doo-be doo),
She’s getting high, trying to fly the sky (oo-bee doo-be doo)!
Eh! Now she is bluesing when there ain’t no blues.
Wo-o-o-oh! A pimper’s paradise: that’s all she was now;
A pimper’s paradise: that’s all she was, oh-ho-ho-ho-ho!
A pimper’s paradise: that’s all she was now;
A pimper’s paradise: that’s all she was.
(Every need got an ego to feed;
Every need got an ego to feed.)
Wo-ho-o-oh! A pimper’s paradise: that’s all she was now, wo-oo-o-oo! Wo-oh!
A pimper’s paradise: that’s all she was. We-e-e-ell-a!
A pimper’s paradise: I’m sorry for the victim now;
Oh, now soon their (pimper’s paradise) - soon their heads - soon their -
Soon their very heads will bow.
(Pimper’s paradise) Don’t lose track - don’t lose track of yourself, oh no!
(Pimper’s paradise) Don’t be just a stock - a stock on the shelf -
stock on the shelf, oh-oh!
(Pimper’s paradise) that’s all she was now. Wo-oo-o-oo-o-oo …

Bob Marley – War Lyrics
Until the philosophy which hold one race superior
And another
Inferior
Is finally
And permanently
Discredited
And abandoned
Everywhere is war
Me say war.
That until there no longer
First class and second class citizens of any nation
Until the colour of a man’s skin
Is of no more significance than the colour of his eyes
Me say war.
That until the basic human rights
Are equally guaranteed to all,
Without regard to race
Dis a war.
That until that day
The dream of lasting peace,
World citizenship
Rule of international morality
Will remain in but a fleeting illusion to be pursued,
But never attained
Now everywhere is war - war.
And until the ignoble and unhappy regimes
That hold our brothers in Angola,
In Mozambique,
South Africa
Sub-human bondage
Have been toppled,
Utterly destroyed
Well, everywhere is war
Me say war.
War in the east,
War in the west,
War up north,
War down south
War - war
Rumours of war.
And until that day,
The African continent
Will not know peace,
We Africans will fight - we find it necessary
And we know we shall win
As we are confident
In the victory
Of good over evil
Good over evil, yeah!
Good over evil
Good over evil, yeah!
Good over evil
Good over evil, yeah!
“Ambush In The Night”
(Ooh-wee, ooh-wee, ooh-wa!)
See them fighting for power (ooh-wee, ooh-wee, ooh-wa!),
But they know not the hour (ooh-wee, ooh-wee, ooh-wa!),;
So they bribing with their guns, spare-parts and money,
Trying to belittle our
Integrity now.
They say what we know
Is just what they teach us;
And we’re so ignorant
'Cause every time they can reach us (shoobe, doo-wa)
Through political strategy (shoo-be, doo-wa);
They keep us hungry (shoobe, doo-wa),
And when you gonna get some food (shoobe, doo-wa),
Your brother got to be your enemy, we-e-ell!
Ambush in the night,
All guns aiming at me;
Ambush in the night,
They opened fire on me now.
Ambush in the night,
Protected by His Majesty.
Ooh-wee, ooh-wee. Ooh-wa-ooh!
(Ooh-wee) Ooh-wee, ooh-wee (ooh-wa), Ooh-wa!
Ooh-wee, ooh-wee, ooh wa-ooh!
Ooh-wee, ooh-wee, ooh wa-ah!
Well, what we know
Is not what they tell us;
We’re not ignorant, I mean it,
And they just cannot touch us;
Through the powers of the Most-I (shoobe, doo-wa),
We keep on surfacin’ (shoobe, doo-wa);
Thru the powers of the Most-I (shoobe, doo-wa),
We keep on survivin’.
Yeah, this ambush in the night
Planned by society;
Ambush in the night;
They tryin’ to conquer me;
Ambush in the night
Anyt’ing money can bring;
Ambush in the night
Planned by society;
Ambush in the night
“Crazy Baldheads”
Them crazy, them crazy -
We gonna chase those crazy
Baldheads out of town;
Chase those crazy baldheads
Out of our town.
I’n’I build a cabin;
I’n’I plant the corn;
Didn’t my people before me
Slave for this country?
Now you look me with that scorn,
Then you eat up all my corn.
We gonna chase those crazy -
Chase them crazy -
Chase those crazy baldheads out of town!
[Scat singing]
Build your penitentiary, we build your schools,
Brainwash education to make us the fools.
Hate is your reward for our love,
Telling us of your God above.
We gonna chase those crazy -
Chase those crazy bunkheads -
Chase those crazy baldheads out of the yown!
[Instrumental break]
We gonna chase those crazy -
Chase those crazy bunkheads -
Chase those crazy baldheads out of the yown!
Here comes the conman
Coming with his con plan.
We won’t take no bribe;
We’ve got (to) stay alive.
We gonna chase those crazy -
Chase those crazy baldheads -
Chase those crazy baldheads out of the yown.
Bad Card
Michael Jackson is King of Pop now almost equivalent is Nesta …None of them did invent the genre but they shone brightest.
The lyrics to most of his songs gave inspiration and solace to as many as did Martin Luther King’s speeches and he came to symbolize resistance to oppression.

Robert Nesta Marley was the first third world music superstar. Before him, almost all musical inspiration looked towards the west for a white man riding on black man’s creativity. If you were black or any other minority and aspired to be a musician, there was only so far you could hope to go. Even if you created the musical form, you would watch others take the credit for it. Little Ritchie was a Rock pioneer, but Elvis Presley was the superstar. Blues was created in the Mississippi delta by black people but Johnny Cash and them were the superstars. Bob Marley turned the tables on that. If Bob Marley hadn’t come along, there wouldn’t be any Hip Hop music or RnB music.
So did Dedan Kimathi, Booker T Washington, Marcus Garvey ,Mahtma Gandhi,etc etc, yet I don’t see people being equally obsessed with them

Music is timeless. On the other hand; quotes,a man in a ‘diaper’, a hand cuffed guy in a black and white picture, is not.
