Kenya’s poverty rate stands at 39.8%, says National Bureau of Statistics (KNBS). This is the East African Community poverty rate picture:
Somalia: 70%
(R Congo): 63%
Burundi: 56%
Kenya: 39.8%
Uganda: 37%
Tanzania: 26%
Rwanda: 25%
even the US got poverty rates, it doesnt mean they are poor like in africa. in other words i’m saying poverty can be measured according to different standards.
it is interesting that according to your stats Somalia is at 70% and Kenya 39.8%. Kenyas North eastern region which comprises of mandera, garissa and wajir counties is home to kenyan somalis where illiteracy is the highest, poverty is high, it is also the region hosting the largest refugee camp since the collapse of somalia. So,those are the regions making kenyan figure look large.
