Tanzania Participates in Second Africa–Russia Foreign Ministers Forum Held in Cairo

MINISTER KOMBO LEADS THE TANZANIA DELEGATION TO PARTICIPATE IN THE SECOND MEETING OF THE FORUM OF FOREIGN MINISTERS OF AFRICAN COUNTRIES AND RUSSIA HELD ON 19 AND 20 DECEMBER, 2025, IN CAIRO, EGYPT

The Minister of Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation, His Excellency Ambassador Mahmoud Thabit Kombo, has led the Tanzanian Delegation to participate in the Second Meeting of the Forum of Foreign Ministers of African Countries and Russia held on 19 and 20 December, 2025, in Cairo, Egypt. The meeting was attended by Ministers of Foreign Affairs of Africa, African Regional Communities and the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Russia.
The meeting held under the Co-Chairs, His Excellency Dr. Badr Abdelatty, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Egypt and His Excellency Sergey Lavrov, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, has provided an opportunity for African countries and Russia to discuss and agree on important issues affecting common interests in their countries and in the United Nations, and its Organizations. The African and Russian ministers have stressed the importance of the United Nations and its subordinate bodies, including the United Nations Security Council, being reformed to increase African representation, enhance accountability and effectiveness, have a global trading system that is based on equity, and provide equal opportunities for every country to participate freely in important discussions and decisions affecting the world.

At the meeting, Minister Kombo had the opportunity to deliver a short speech that reflected the good diplomatic relations that exist, and the strategic areas of cooperation that are being implemented between Tanzania and Russia. In his speech, he also emphasized that the long-standing cooperation between Russia and African nations, which began before and during the struggle against colonialism, must continue, but place greater priority on increasing economic cooperation, especially in the strategic sectors of infrastructure and transport, energy and renewable energy, technology, ICT, and health. He emphasized that enhanced cooperation in these sectors will support Africa’s efforts to expand its economy.
