On June 8, 2025, in Mwanza, Minister of Works Abdallah Ulega emphasized the strategic importance of the Kigongo–Busisi Bridge in Tanzania’s integrated transport vision—linking road, rail (SGR), and water networks to boost trade and logistics.
“This bridge uniquely connects to the SGR corridor, crucial for heavy cargo movement. The Mwanza–Isaka SGR section is already over 50% complete,” said Ulega.
The bridge is part of the broader plan to connect Mwanza–Tabora–Dodoma–Kigoma–Msongati via SGR, enhancing Tanzania’s position in the Great Lakes trade region.
The government is concluding deals for the Mwanza–Usagara and Sengerema–Nyahunge roads to further decongest and support bridge access—set to be inaugurated by President Samia on June 19, 2025.
Total investment: TZS 716 billion (≈ $278 million), fully funded by Tanzanian tax revenue.
A milestone in President Samia’s 4-year development record—building infrastructure that delivers regional economic impact.
