On June 19, 2025, President Samia Suluhu Hassan will officially inaugurate the Magufuli Bridge in Mwanza – the longest bridge in East & Central Africa, spanning 3 km with an additional 1.66 km of connecting roads.
Location: Kigongo–Busisi, Lake Victoria.
The announcement was made by Prime Minister Kassim Majaliwa during his site inspection. He called upon Mwanza residents to turn out in large numbers to welcome the Head of State.
Minister of Works, Abdallah Ulega, confirmed that this historic project was completed using domestic funding, a testament to Tanzania’s financial independence and infrastructure ambition.
The project cost over TSh 700 billion (approx. USD 270 million) and connects the districts of Kigongo and Busisi across Lake Victoria – the world’s 3rd largest freshwater lake.
The government has also pledged to develop surrounding infrastructure, including the Sengerema–Nyehunge (54.5 km) and Kamanga–Sengerema (32 km) roads, to unlock regional economic potential.
The Magufuli Bridge is more than just infrastructure – it’s a national symbol of progress, unity, and Tanzanian engineering capacity.
