A total of 800 delegates, including foreign ambassadors, arrived in Dodoma aboard Tanzania’s modern Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) ahead of major national and international events this week
This symbolic journey highlights the growing strategic importance of Tanzania’s SGR, not just for domestic mobility but also for boosting diplomatic, economic, and regional integration.
Among the passengers were high-ranking government officials, international diplomats, private sector leaders, and invited guests—all experiencing firsthand the efficiency and comfort of the SGR system.
A transport executive stated:
“This is more than just a train ride. It’s a demonstration of Tanzania’s commitment to infrastructure-led development and its readiness to host the world.”
As Dodoma continues its rapid transformation into a modern capital, seamless connectivity via SGR plays a critical role in shaping it as a hub for diplomacy, governance, and investment.
The event has gained attention across the region, with many noting Tanzania’s ability to deliver on large-scale transport infrastructure that connects people, provinces, and partners.
Under President Samia Suluhu Hassan’s leadership, the SGR is not just a project—it’s a statement: Tanzania is moving forward, and everyone’s invited on board.
