SDE: How would you compare the local music industry to Tanzanian?
Nameless: Without doubt Tanzanian music industry is way ahead of Kenya- with the likes of Diamond and Ali Kiba pushing the Bongo music to the international world map.
On the other hand, it appears musicians have their times –when things just happen for them at certain point. This has to do with the chemistry between the producers and artists in order for that buzz to happen – which we clearly lack in Kenya.
Hakuna mtu amekataa… Tanzanians na music are dope. I don’t know about the times of les wanyika, simba wa nyika, them mushrooms etc… who dominated the scene?
Tanzania has always produced great musicians. In past decades, it produced even greater musicians in larger numbers. The current crop was actually inspired by the past generations.I remember Diamond gifting a car to one old star by the name Muhidin Ngurumo, which, in essence, was a recognition of the influence the later had on the former. The competition in the Tanzanian music industry was so intense that a good number set up base in Kenya, giving rise to the likes of Les Wanyika.
True… Though not surprising as aside from farming music is the only other viable economic activity available to majority of the youth. Tz govt should do more by opening up more options and not tethering people with Swahili thereby limiting innovations, markets. …
Dude. Ata kama wahype Tanzania viile. Very few kenyans watch Tanzanian movies. And i repeat few kenyans. I wonder if there will be anyone in this forum who will relate to those names.
On other hand, i think your government move in promoting local entertainment industry is commendable. And do you know before tz music artists make it, they have to pass through kenya for initiation? Think about it.
