The Swiss embassy has disowned a letter purportedly written by its ambassador that lists Starehe constituency aspirant Steve Mbogo as has having over Sh115 million stashed abroad.
Switzerland’s ambassador to Kenya Ralf Heckner told Nairobi News on Wednesday that the letter, which claims Mr Mbogo’s bank account in the European country has been frozen, is fake. The letter has been widely shared online. According to Mr Heckner, the signature at the bottom of the letter is not his.
The author of the letter was responding to a request from the Kenyan government for a disclosure of the identity of Kenyan citizens holding Swiss bank accounts and the amounts in their accounts. Mr Mbogo had posted the letter on his Twitter handle, bragging that not even the freezing of his account would deter him from winning the starehe seat.
When Nairobi News contacted him for comment after the clarification from the Swiss embassy, he failed to respond. Moments later he pulled down the tweet.
The unfortunate thing is that kuna wale wameshaamua serikali inasumbua huyu conman and will vote for him coz of his fake letter. Ni kama Gov Mutua. If he’s voted out, then nitajua we’re not yet there. Bado tuko stoneage kama ile ya kuchoma old folks in kisii in the name of Witchcraft.
When people use your name coat-of-arms, address, etc. Illegitimately, you must come out and denounce them at once. Silence might be construed by our gullible voters to be truth.
