Injured guy alipoonekana ndio iliachwa na protesters ipite

A young man identified as Ian has died after he was hit in the head by a stray live bullet while standing on the balcony of his home in Juja. According to sources close to the family, Ian was not participating in any demonstrations or outside during the protests at the time of the shooting.

Friends rushed him from Juja to Thika Town and later sought medical help in Nairobi. However, his mother reportedly faced challenges accessing Thika due to movement restrictions related to the protests.

Upon reaching a private Hospital in Thika, the family was allegedly denied immediate access to see Ian and was asked for KSh 200,000 to admit him into the ICU a sum difficult to raise late in the evening. The hospital continued conducting tests as the family struggled to gather funds.

Eventually, the mother was advised to transfer Ian to Kenyatta University Referral Hospital, considered a more affordable option. Despite her efforts, Ian succumbed to his injuries later that evening.

A bullet wound is an emergency that is treatable without an admission fee at public hospitals.

More reason why functional public healthcare matters.
