OPEN LETTER TO HON SAKAJA
Dear Sir
My name is James Thiongo…I run a Clothes Business on Tom Mboya Street , I sell imported Clothes from Turkey and Other Goods from Chine…I have been in this Business Since 2006, Dear Sir, Apart from paying Licences for the Shop. , I pay Rent, GK taxes including import Duties …I also have two Assistants on Full-time Employment, upto and until 2017…Business has been Good…and Despite not making Much…we have been Breaking even…things Started getting Bad…when politics of Survival became a Norm in this Country…all of a Sudden…Politi cs took Precedence over Discipline and Order…Disorder and Chaos within the City became the Norm…Hawkers and Peddlers took up all the open Spaces within the City…Since they have near zero overheads…they have undercut licensed Bussiness…this even as they Block and Harras Shop owners…we have seen our Businesses go downhill…to the point that it is now impossible to Survive…I personally voted for you…when I read yr Manifesto…and among the points…was one where you promised to bring Order to the City…you have proved to be a Big Dissapoiment…to make matters worse…yr officers arrest and lock us up for not having licences …while collecting 100/= per week as Cess from Hawkers…it is now easier and cheaper to shut down our Shops…and Join Hawkers…on the Streets…in the meantime…we are planning to set up a Lobby Group of ALL Shopowners in the County…we will reject the payment of Licences until our Rights are Respected…we will also Lobby to have one of us elected as Governor of Nairobi…if that is what it will take…to have our interests Given Priority
Merry Christmas
