Sunday Music: Country

Johnny Cash
The king of country music and a splendid story teller.
This is probably the mannliest song in existence.

At least one song where Miley Cyrus has some semblance of talent.

Her aunt probably threatened to slap her with her big mellons if she messed up her song.

lol is she really her aunt? i always thought she was just her godmother

Godmother. was too lazy to confirm. If only she had a half of Dolly’s looks and a quater of her talent. Life can be so unfair sometimes.

miley would need a couple of plastic surgeon to cover the looks part, no?

Six million dollar Miley. She needs so much repair I by the time they are done with her she wouldn’t be Miley anymore. You listen to country?

honestly, no. But I like how it feels when I watch stuff with that country feel. It’s calming, yes?

I love listening to Matthew McConaughey talk and after watching Mud, I fell in love with Tye Sheridan too 'cause he has the same effect (mixed in with a bit of the NOLA thing as well). I was able to actually sit and watch Nicholas Cage in Joe because of that boy and it turned out to be one of my favorite movies because the soundtracks, the scenes etc I actually think its one of Cage’s better works.

I did listen to a fair bit of country while growing up because my dad loved it. It came in those little green cassettes I was never allowed to touch. I always knew when my dad had a day off because it was the first thing he would put on when he woke up in the morning. In retrospect, I now see why he gravitated towards Rick Dees’ voice and ended up allowing us to listen to that show.

Thought so. My old man is a die hard fan too. Started liking country when I discovered spaghetti Westerns on TCM as a kid. The thing is I never grew with the trends. I’m stuck listening to likes of Cash, Kristopherson and Dolly same as hip-hop. Saw the poster for Joe and was immediately put off… lakini nitaijaribu. O Brother Where Art Thou or The Assassination of Jesse James By the Coward Robert Ford ni poa pia.

Lemme look for that right away. I think it was the staples for us growing up … Kenny Rogers, Don Williams … y’know?

Pick the slowest Sunday afternoon to watch Joe. Its pretty slow.

Try Killer Joe too. Lets just say I’m going through my Matthew McConaughey phase … which seems to be lasting a couple of years. I’m just glad he got out of that “douchey-but-sometimes-sweet-hot-guy-in-romantic-films” pigeonhole he was stuck in for a while at the start of his career. I was worried he was gonna become the next Dane Cook.

Did you like him in True Detective?

I think he is phenomenal, makes it one of the best shows ever. Though he came off as a bit stiff in interstellar.

This is one of the actors who I think we’ve actually seen growing ability-wise. I think he’s grown the most in the last couple of years so yeah, it is possible that he did have a bit missing in that movie.

Not denying that.

You really kept faithful to the Breast Cancer Awareness month down to the last day, huh? Did you make sure to get tested too?

Yep, despite being called a shemale and other thing. I feel like I didn’t make a difference. He he he! I got checked two months ago when I went to my routine check up. When was the last time you got tested?

lol there will always be stone-throwers if you wanna speak in the town square. You just have to go in with that knowledge and stick to your guns … like you did.

I’ve already gone 3 times this month! I went for my own at Nairobi Hospital, then did another when I took my moms to KNH for both the cervical and breast cancer test she does twice a year. She doesn’t believe in many other hospitals so I always have to take her to KNH. The third had to be at Mater in the last week of the month while taking my niece and her friends who find the whole process really “weird”. I want her to get used to the idea … her friends too.
