Sultan Hamud is a town in Kasikeu division of Makueni County, Kenya. It was previously in the former Nzaui District of Eastern Province.

The town is part of Nzai County Council and Kilome Constituency
Sultan Hamud lies on the main railway line of Kenya Railways between the coast at Mombasa and the national capital of Nairobi. It is also a junction for a short branch line.

HISTORY OF THE NAME SULTAN HAMUD
The town got its name from Sultan Ali Hamud who ruled Zanzibar Sultanate from 1902 to 1911. When construction of the railway reached present-day Sultan Hamud, the Zanzibar ruler visited to see progress and camped there for some days. That visit gave the town its name.

Thank you very much for that information. I’d always assumed it was something to do with slave trade, now i know. Some slight inconsistency, well, The Lunatic Express got to Kisumu by 1901, so suspect he visited before he became a ruler.
Do you have history of Mackinnon?

thanks for the info, now i know

I disagree, ,that pic of the mosque is of the one at Kyumbi, machakos junction

There’s a road from here to Namanga.
