Solar powered AC pump

To Kenyans who have switched to solar from Kenya Power—how’s it going?

I’m considering making the switch to reduce our electricity bills. We have a large household that uses about 3,000 liters of water daily. Our monthly electricity bill is around Sh3,500, which covers water pumping, a posho mill, a chaff cutter, lighting, and other household uses.

From what we’ve estimated, water pumping from our 100ft well seems to be the largest contributor to this cost.

Now, my question: Is it economically viable to install solar to power the water pump? We have a 1hp Dayliff DSD submersible pump. If solar works effectively, we could also use it for irrigation on our 3-acre, highly fertile farm.

Will the savings from the electricity bill justify the cost of installing the solar system? Would it be worth the investment? I’d appreciate any advice or insights!

Only peasants talk like this.

Solar is the best and cheap. But it would help if you had a DC pump for efficiency.
