Solai Dam Tragedy. Still no justice.

Naivasha Chief Magistrate Kennedy Bidali (pictured above) in February 2020 acquitted nine suspects who had been charged with causing the death of 47 people who were killed in the dam tragedy at the Patel farm in Solai, Nakuru County in May 2018.

On Thursday, however, Justice Richard Mwongo (pictured below) ruled that the trial court in Naivasha erred in acquitting the accused persons in the Solai Dam tragedy case.

In his ruling, Justice Mwongo said the trial court erred by stating that DPP’s office was absent yet record showed there was an appointed prosecutor on the hearing date who would have been ordered to proceed with case

Many Kenyans are not aware that the many families of victims were being forced/coerced to sign forms without their lawyers present. These forms were to accept peanuts as compensation and waive their rights to ever sue the Indian billionaire.

The second anniversary is coming up May 8 without justice. Meanwhile CJ Maraga wants a Mercedes Benz and other things.

There’s some hope still…

I would have acquited the owners too on many grounds of technicality. However, I would have made sure that the government compensated the affected families heftily.
