Hi talkers,
while I am a Christian, there are certain verses in the Bible that I have found difficult to believe especially after putting them into the real life context. I watch Supernatural religiously and it somehow affected my beleifs…especially when the non-canonical books are put into context. I’d say the series led me to research on the Book of Enoch which I like (discussion for another day).
Currently, the verse that I find hard to believe is this:
New Living Translation (Romans 13:1)
Everyone must submit to governing authorities. For all authority comes from God, and those in positions of authority’s have been placed there by God.
Put it in context with our African leaders like Museveni, Nkurunzinza etc. Or let’s say when people say the President will win the elections by hook or crook, then the President proceeds to win it by those means…is he appointed by God?
Expert Theologist perspective needed… @Acoustic
When Satan tempted Jesus he told Him he will give him all the kingdoms of the world if He bows down to saitani. What they forgot to mention is the kingdoms Jesus was shown were African governments.
It means Christian should not rebel against authority of the day because they put their hope on God’s kingdom and also they know for a fact any form of human authority no matter how good its intentions it always fall short.
i know. how shallow that a hollywood director can change foundations
anyway…
all authority is put by The Gods. They have their reasons for that.
your job is to pay taxes and show some respect
it does not mean that you can’t tell them the truth
you can
@1776@mona_lisa the movie itself is sci-fi but most of the characters in the Angels and Demons plot are actually from the Bible and religious writing. So when they mention the Book of Enoch and you do a little research on Angels/Demons as narrated by Enoch…then you’ll understand why I’ve said that.
Archeologists and Theologians agreed that the Pentateuch was lifted from the epic of Gilgamesh.
What we learned in history that Sumerian civilization (Mesopotamia bla bla bla) as the cradle of civilization, it happens that it was the end of civilization.
That’s why at times it hard to connect dots in the old testament.
And is it true, that Ham castrated his Father Noah?
