Watoto wengi wa single mothers in central have their mothers names as surname.
It could be due to a number of reasons:
Messy divorce
The father aliingia Embobut never to be seen again
The mother was not sure who the father was…
If you don’t participate in your child’s upbringing, your name is useless. Hapa niko nyuma ya singo mathas. Ghaseer ikiingia Embobut nayeye jina yake inafutwa kila mahali.
Ni vile masingle mothers wanejaa huko. Halafu wasichana wa central hawaachangi watoto na baba yao kama kuna divorce ama separation, unlike luo ladies.
Had one friend called P. Ngaruiya in campus. Was very confused coz it was my first time kusikia jina kama hio. Told me he registered all his documents na jina ya madhe coz fadhe was not in the picture anymore.
This issue needs to be resolved. When applying for an ID the surname should be the family name (not fathers or mothers). I understand that if on your birth certificate the fathers name is not included they indicate the existing parents name, in this case mother as the surname.
Also you must submit copies of id of your father and mother kwa application. And if fathers copy is not there they use the mothers name as surname.
I belive that there are single mothers in all tribes, so how do they sort this name issue? How did single mothers like akothe, Betty kyalo, terryann chebet etc sort this?
