There was some Chinese guy in the eco-friendly bags business that told us he’d start doing this because of the SGR delays (I personally found it ironic that his government had encouraged him to invest in Kenya, but his business being screwed by SGR by his government).

Basically, his biggest complaint was that his goods had taken a shorter time to ship from China to Mombasa than they were taking in Mombasa to Nairobi. They’re basically being forced to use a service that is yet to be streamlined.

The passenger SGR was a hit from the get-go because of proper implementation and being cheaper. Bus companies were even afraid wamemaliswa. No one forced people to use the train, and the last mile connectivity doesn’t seem to dampen demand.

They should do the same with this. Make transporting your goods faster and cheaper on SGR freight than using trucks, and you won’t even need to force anyone. Otherwise itabaki kuwa cat and mouse. Changing address kwa KRA is not that hard, nor is renting a warehouse to make your address legit.
