If consuming donkey meat is not of
interest to you, then how about drinking donkey milk? Over the years, the donkey has only been perceived
as a beat of burden despite it having
numerous benefits.
One farmer in Naivasha has explored
other uses of the animal, which has
turned out to be a goldmine for him.
John Nduhiu, a 55-year-old retiree in
Kamere area is harvesting donkey
milk to sustain his lifestyle.
He started off using the donkeys to
fetch water from Lake Navasha before starting to milk them.
Speaking to Citizen TV, Nduhiu said he’s learnt of the milk from members of the Turkana community and started the business with three donkeys. He nowhere boasts of a herd of 19 donkeys that he milks and sells to residents
and customers from other places.
The donkey farmer stated that the milk is nutritional and has many health benefits.
His wife, Alice Njeri, told Citizen TV that the milk is tasty and nutritious,
noting that it has helped her overcome certain health complications.
