Nyeuthi depsise their own culture because it does not feature on TV screens. And when it does, it is on low quality cameras with poor image processors that make them look like mud.
In such a situation, everything done elsewhere in the world where cameras make them loook good, makes nyeuthis feel less important. That’s why for example, people will see South African cultural dances as “better” than Nigerian or senegalese cultural dances becuase obviously south africans have better ties to the west, and thus better access to image technicians and equipment.
It’s about how cameras have shaped the psyche of the modern world more than anything else.
