NASA presidential candidate Raila Odinga now claims the ongoing standard gauge railway (SGR) was diverted to Naivasha to benefit the First Family.

Raila said that the dry port and the line through which the SGR would pass was land owned by President Uhuru and his family.

Raila noted that the original SGR route was meant to be constructed from Mombasa to Nairobi and then direct to Kisumu.

“The move to divert the SGR to Naivasha is meant benefit the Uhuru family which owns the land where the industrial park will be located,” he said.

Raila questioned the rationale to construct the dry port in Naivasha noting that the lakeside town did not even have an airport.

“When Kibaki and I gave nod to the project, it was meant to start from Mombasa to Kisumu but due to some poor leadership it has been diverted to Naivasha,” he said.

Raila was speaking in Kamere grounds in Naivasha where he revisited issues on 2007/2008 post election violence that rocked the town leaving over 50 people dead and hundreds of others displaced.

He noted that all the victims of the post election violence in parts of the country had been compensated but those from Naivasha had been left out.

“Naivasha has over 5,000 integrated IDPs including Ndiege who lost all his family members but the Jubilee government has refused to compensate them,” he said.

Raila accused the government of buying votes by paying some IDPS and pointed to the recent visit by Uhuru in Kisii where some families received compensation.

He lashed out at flower farmers for poorly paying their workers noting that this would change when NASA took over the country’s leadership.

“Workers in the flower farms are poorly paid, oppressed and work in poor working conditions and this will change under my leadership,” he said.

Raila lashed out at Uhuru saying that he was not in control of his government and that he should give up and allow the NASA government to take charge.

“The cost of living has gone up and the prices of basic commodity have gone through the roof and it’s time Jubilee went home,” he said.

So the SGR will finally terminate at Naivasha?

this is expected Hata Ile inajengwa lake Victoria sits on raila land

Hawa colonial home guards watatumaliza they only protect their own interests…

was supposed to develop wings at ngong to overfly the rift valley…

Someone seems to have a talent in ranting. He will rant about everything

Raila makes a lot of sense in some instances like this one. And, mostly not. Like all other politicians, the UhuRuto duo doesn’t care about the common man just like Raila doesn’t. We, the ‘ordinaries’ are pawns in a game of thrones. SGR is overrated in all terms-financially and delivery- and Jubilee pushing it is because the beneficiaries are in it. Why didn’t we just upgrade the old railway line at a lower cost but for better delivery? Did the government have to buy land to have the system? And, who owned that land the government bought to have the passage and for how long? So, yes! On this one, the land in Naivasha was acquired just recently so the payouts would benefit a few. Go figure.

I speak as a non_partisan but Raila makes no sense alot of the times

Yaani he’s telling the voters of Naivasha that they do not deserve the SGR?

Two days ago, he also insulted the parents, wives children and friends if NIS and KDF employees, when he said that they are compromised and involved in a national plot to rig for Jubilee.

Every 5 years the boot-in-mouth traveling circus tours Kenya.

Yes another rant far from truth and facts. Had SGR followed the same route as the lunatic railway the cost would have been incredible but he wouldn’t mention that, doesn’t care or his bonoko welding degree can’t help him. Land acquisition would increase by Kshs 30 billion as the area is built up. It would require three major bridges and two long tunnels that would cost Kshs 100 billion since it would cut through the Rift Valley hilly terrain. SGR gradient can’t be more that 5 degrees since its traveling at excess of 120kms per hour speed and pulling double stacked cargo wagons. Even the lunatic railway went bankrupt in constructing it through RV, forcing colonial Britain to pay the test of the construction on behalf of colonial Kenya. The construction would also take 2 and half years longer on the old route due to it complexity and therefore increase wages by Kshs 10 billion. CCCC (the parent company of CRBC and they will be handling phase 2 construction) took 6 months with their best engineering/design/engineering/architect team with other from KR in plotting several routes for phase 2-3. At the end the most cost effective, timely and shortest route was picked. Even the Nairobi-Naivasha-Narok-Bomet-Kisumu road highway is 2 hours shorter. Babuon statements are usually wild tales, imaginary and spins. For once can his beloved media or supporters fact check him with questions or are they comfortable with paying an extra $1.6 billion/ Kshs 160 billion just to fulfill his ego trip.

Lastly one reason the SGR passed the southern route is the combine need for the Narok Suswa Special Economic Zone and Naivasha Special Economic Zone. They are both strategic as they directly linked to 440KV power substations that evacuates geothermal power to Nairobi. They are also close proximity to geothermal steam. They are also remote with a lot of land to build a massive SEZ. With cheap, realible power plus steam makes it attractive for Chinese multinationals to build up the SEZ’s even the Kengen SEZ in olkaria come into play. We may end up borrowing $ 10 billion for Mombasa-Malaba SGR but thanks to the planned SEZ we will attract FDI of excess $20 billion along the line, build one in each county it passes, create several export manufacturing hubs and employ 100’s of 1000’s of jobs. Right now let’s deal with the burden of building it. The future rewards are many. NLC is acquiring several remote lands at little cost for the SEZ’s.

Makes economic sense. Now, break down and justify every single billion spent on the SGR.

So this deranged man goes to Naivasha and tells the folks there that they don’t deserve the SGR and industrial park and that’s supposed to win him votes? It’s a miracle he wasn’t chased away by locals.
Again he speaks from both sides of his mouth. Ati IDPs from here havent been paid(they were the first to be paid in reality) then the other side of the mouth opens and stammers ati UhuRuto are buying votes by settling the IDP! Huyu mzee si ni mgonjwa akili jameni!

Ever wondered by Red Cross and UNDP left the IDP matter a long term ago around 2010. From their list of IDP’s most were resettled and those that weren’t moved on not to return. Since then government has conducted 10 rounds of resettlement and compensation. Even two weeks ago 860 million was provided to Kisii/Nyamira IDP’s. Frankly we are just giving people money for free and the only consolation is that they are hard done with life and need that boost whether its IDP’s or not.

On SGR, every county that it passes should now be working CS Adan, newly formed SEZ board in making them a reality. Allocate land with the help of NLC, get it fenced, get a power substation, water, sewerage line and one stop all licences/registration office. Package it for marketing as a joint project and present to manufacturing companies. Let investors build the other infrastructure i.e plants, roads, lighting, SGR cargo stations for loading their goods and housing units for workers. Over to you Mombasa, Kwale, Taita Taveta, Kitui, Makueni, Machakos, Nairobi, Kajiado, Nakuru, Narok, Bomet, Homa Bay, Kisumu, Siaya, Kakamega and Busia counties.

Ilikuaje Nakuru, Eldoret, Webuye, Bungoma, Malaba towns zikabaguliwa na hii SGR mkubwa? This is the main cargo route

You know it is not justifiable… Deep down. The beauty of life is that all those who loot will finally experience karma at some point. The Karume’s are a good reference point. Don’t forget the Ritho’s.
