Sexual exploitation in the modelling industry: confession from two ladies

Yesterday I had the chance of attending a launch of a certain product which is a combined venture between the private sector and a county government. On the sidelines of the event, I chatted with two ladies who were invited in a group of six to grace the occasion. We talked about several things personal and professional. I decided to enquire about the challenges they face as models. Here they opened up and told me some shocking revelations concerning the sexual abuse in the field. For example, those men assigned to take their body measurements when they are signing up usually touch them in inappropriate places. A guy taking their shoulder width or hip width may caress them without permission but she may not say anything for fear of being dismissed or fired. One told me of a competition where a guy was supposed to measure the breast size. You had to enter a room, bare your bust and the guy would place the tape measure over your tits and record the measurement. Even when your thighs are being measured, you have to be only in a pantie and the guys doing the work might touch you inappropriately. But probably the worst is being forced to sleep with managers in charge of a certain pageant for special favours. The only consolation they have is that once you make it past several pageants and start getting endorsements and connections to big companies, your life can change drastically for the better.

Shifo…unakuwanga chonjo mambo ya wanawake

Thanks for the observation

Si yeye ni mumama

It’s not in Kenya. It’s world over. I am not condoning the practice, just stating a fact

Media na modeling industry hio mambo iko. Plus its the ladies who offer themselves for special treatments.

lazima tunawakamue

Is it really proper? Would it not be bad to have a close relative who works in that sector and to know that they go through all this?

But most are forced by circumstances

Mumama ni nyanyako

It’s not just modeling. This culture is rife in many professions out there. Some industries are notorious clusters of HIV. It’s anyone’s guess now with the lifting of Covid restrictions, HIV and other STIs will be on an upward trajectory as people mingle and bodily fluids get exchanged through coitus.

Juzi niliskia ati syphillis is being detected in most pregnant women. How is this happening?

It’s a complex set of factors but at the core of it is the boredom occasioned by the slowdown due to Covid. The high number of pregnancies is a good pointer to the multiple raw coitus encounters. Syphilis is treatable though bruh.

I don’t expect it to be any different anywhere in the world…

That is why I don’t approve this thing called modeling. The moment you hear a girl say am a model just condomize, it’s like if you are having a wife working in a massage parlour.

syphilis is a virus but gonorrhea is a bacterium. ukiskia virus toka mbio juu zinaendana na HIV

massage parlour and wife cannot be in one sentence!

I remember there was a time I had the opportunity to interview and vet some models for a gig.
Si nilikuwa nakamuwa young tight holes for about 3 months ilikuwa tu kuma mpya almost everyday. Others hadi I was making sextapes na wao n they agree to it as long as watapata kazi

I usually see guys who marry barmaids but I am left confused about it
