Too many cows, and they will mismanage. Too few cows, and theyâll likely neglect them. You have to at least spend a week with to know the personâs capability. The typical Kenyan farmhand isnât exactly the type of a person to work without maximum supervision or very very clearly set expected results; that are attached to the salary.
Farming in any form requires hands on management style, itâs only in Kenya mahali watu hujaribu kulima via remote control, kazi ni simu tu ukiwa kwa office ama kwa sofa umelalaâŚyou will fail.
Not for free. If the job aligns with my goals; Iâd show them the value I bring, to negotiate for a raise. No job is designed to make anyone rich. All jobs are stepping stones to where you want to go. Looking at jobs that way lowers entitlement and attachment issues.
Ikianza huwa ni pesa nzuri, pesa hangewahi pata akikaa nyumbani. But wakati ameongeza mahitaji kama kupata girlfriend ama kuchukua simu na mkopo etc. mshahara inakuwa peanuts. Ju mwenye ngombe hajuikukama, they hold him hostage by threatening to leave. Mimi huwezi nifanyia hivyo, I had to learn the trade.
That âs an unbelievable level of retardation . And you wonder why we canât develop as a country. As someone has mentioned you work hard with integrity and you can negotiate a better pay package. If you can show you are adding value then any normal sane person will be glad to even give a bonus. Outside Africa you will find franchises running making money and the owner has delegated this to a management team who are keen to make money and also learn for future opportunities. In Kenya you find an idiot selling the milk off the books forgetting that if the venture is not stable then there will be no job.
The problem I had is the unintelligent American diaspora with their TV addiction, think that a professor and a governor have enough brain cells between them to change the outcome of an election on a budget of Kshs 0.00..
So yes, youâre right. Nilotes cannot develop this country, by simple virtue of tribal loyalty overriding common sense and visible intelligence.
This is understandable and just common sense for a CAREER, not a kibarua as a farmhand, a gig where you could be replaced by anyone within minutes. Itâs on the employer to make it worth it for the employee to commit his mental and physical capabilities completely, Africans donât understand this. They always think theyâre doing their workers favours.
Every suggestion is met with âtheyâre lucky they have a jobâ. Mtu analipa maid 3k a month na bado anashangaa sheâs not on her feet all day and doesnât care about your brats.
Itâs always âwesterners arenât this lazyâ but never âlets give our employees western rights and wagesâ. Ndio maana late salaries and wage theft is so rampant.
No body looks for a job without having an idea of how much salary comes with it. You can always negotiate your salary upwards if you think you offer more value; or seek another job whose pay matches your perceived value. Itâs not a do or die, and sabotaging the employerâs plan doesnât necessarily put money in your pocket; at least not sustainably.
